You Can Survive The Terrible Two’s-Really, You Can.
Do you hear non-stop screaming? Is someone in your home throwing themselves or their cups on the floor in a fit? Are you pulling your hair out? Do you wish you could duct tape someone’s mouth shut? Is potty training just another way for someone to drive you crazy, literally?
You, my frazzled mom, have a toddler. And not just any toddler. You have one who has hit the terrible two’s. I have one like that and, let me tell you, I can already feel my hair turning gray.
The terrible twos can be a very challenging time for any parent. Your little angel has turned into a demon and you just don’t understand why. Well, your child is testing your limits. They have always done what you have said in the past and now they want a taste of freedom. It tastes sweet to them but for you, well, it is sour grapes.
Before you lose all control and fall into some temper-tantrum-hating-frenzy, just take a step back and breathe. If you have to, lock yourself in the bathroom. Just take a few minutes for yourself. You can’t be a good parent unless you take time for you.
My daughter is a screamer. She screams and whines about everything. From 5 A.M. in the morning to 8 P.M. at night, she is usually having a temper tantrum. One thing that has been working for us is simply sending her to her room until she calms down. In the beginning, she actually was crying herself to sleep several times a day. Thing are changing though. Yes, she is still crying alot, but she is slowly learning how to calm herself down and control her emotions.
What are you doing with your terrible twos toddler that is helping your family? What tips can you give that is helping your child control themselves?
The terrible twos are called terrible for a reason. But remember, countless mothers have done it in the past and you can make it through this stage going forward. We are all in this together.
