It would seem that there is a celebrity baby born every hour, well not technically, but there have been quite a few since 2009. The newest addition to the growing list is first time parents, Maxine Bahns and her husband Patrick Watson. According to published reports she gave birth on Sunday in California. The baby’s weight was 6 pounds 2 ounces.

The new parents named the baby Madison Rose Watson, which is a welcome change from all the strange names we have gotten used to. A rep for the couple was quoted as saying, “Madison is doing great and the happy parents are excited to bring her into their home.” Bahns co-stars in the hit TV show The Mentalist with Simon Baker, playing his wife.

She has also appeared in Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and CSI: NY. With three movies lined up for release this year she is clearly a busy actress. She already has a plan to get her pre-baby body back. Bahns, who is also an athlete and model plans to take part in a half-triathlon in July.

Thirty-nine year old actress Anne Heche and her boyfriend James Tupper welcomed their first child together in early March. The newborn has been given the moniker, Atlas Heche Tupper. The name which was borrowed from Greek mythology is a little more like what we are used to from celebrities names. The baby boy weighed a healthy 6 pounds, 12 ounces at birth.  Heche already has a seven year old son, Homer with ex-husband Coley Laffoon.

Congrats to everyone on the safe delivery of their bundles of joy. It’s a wait and see to hear which expectant celebrity will be delivering next. Stay tuned!

Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Pete Wentz are now the proud parents of a baby boy. In what seems to be becoming a standard celebrity practice, they have given their son the name Bronx Mowgli. The baby weighed 7 pounds 11 ounces and was born on Thursday night at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

This is the first child for the couple according to a statement from a rep, Ashlee, Pete and baby Bronx are all healthy and happy, and thank everyone for their well wishes!

Pete Wentz is the bassist for the rock band, Fall Out Boy, while Simpson-Wentz is a successful pop star. They made their pregnancy announcement in May. Their wedding took place at her parents home in Los Angeles.

I can imagine the collective groan at this name but I don’t think this trend is going to slow down anytime soon. And remember when he gets to a certain age, Bronx Mowgli can always change it if he wants to. At any rate he may find understanding among any one of the unusually named Hollywood kids, like Pilot Inspektor, son of Jason Lee, or Kal-el Coppola Cage, son of Nicholas Cage.

Still, I expect this name to generate discussion for a while, if only for the fact that this is the newest one to come along. So now that big sis Jessica Simpson is an aunt, she may begin to feel a little pressure to get started having her own family. Let’s hope that a little sibling rivalry doesn’t lead her to try to top her younger sister?s unusual name choice.

Like her older sister, Simpson Wentz has also done some acting, appearing in the film Undiscovered in 2005, as well as making appearances in Malcolm in the Middle and 7^th Heaven.

You don’t have to follow celebrity news to know that Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner are expecting another baby. Their first child, Violet Anne Affleck, was born on December 1 2005.

The latest reports online state that Mr. Affleck will avoid the current trend in Hollywood of giving newborns unusual names. A source close to the actor reportedly said, ‘Ben put his foot down and said no way to trendy Hollywood names.’ Some of us are no doubt nodding their heads in agreement.

While it is the parents right to choose their baby’s name, it’s perfectly normal to be taken aback by some of the choices. Standouts include Penn Jillette naming his daughter Moxie CrimeFighter, Nicholas Cage’s son, Kal-el, as in Superman’s birth name, and Seven Sirius for entertainers Erykah Badu and Andre Benjamin.

Yes a few of these names may prompt a snicker or two, but celebrities aren’t the only ones who do this. Many average couple give their newborns names they hope will standout. A recent story online talked about a couple with the last name Jones, who named their children Dow and Indiana. And who can forget the story of the nine year old New Zealand girl named Talula Does the Hula From Hawaii, who won the right to have her name changed. Apparently it was getting so bad in that country, that the government was forced to ban names like Keenan Got Lucky, Satan, and Fish and Chips among others.

Interestingly, some people feel that names like these are bordering on abuse. At the very least, it could present a social handicap and expose the child to ridicule. One can only wonder if these parents do it for their benefit, or the child’s. I guess time will tell if any of the celebrity baby names mentioned will lead to court cases later on.

Bravo to Ben Affleck for trying to bring some sanity back to naming babies in Hollywood. Maybe it will catch on, but that is unlikely. In the meantime we can no doubt expect a few more Moxie CrimeFighters from the Hollywood set in the coming years.

What are they smoking in Florida? A radio show in Orlando was giving away a $100 gas card to the caller with the most interesting item to trade. Dad-to-be, David Partin, called into the show offering the naming rights to his unborn son.

The presenters declared him the winner, and his son is going to be named Dixon and Willoughby Partin with the “and” included, after the show’s presenters.

And the baby’s mom? I’d have given my son’s father a slap upside the head for this kind of thing, but David’s girlfriend, Samantha, who’s due at Christmas, said “Well, it was his choice,” and that “I’d told him that if it was a girl, I’d name her. And if it was a boy, he’d get to choose… I think he might hate David for a while. But after he grows up some, he’ll always have a story about his name. I always wanted that but never did with ‘Samantha.’ ”

I know your brain shrinks while pregnant, but come on, Samantha, Junior is going to hate you too. You are allowed to have an opinion. You have to sign the birth certificate, so don’t mess up your kid’s life for $100. I can think of several mean nicknames and I’m way, way older than a grade schooler.

And then, the story starts getting really twisted. David’s friends started offering him more money to out-bid the radio station and get the chance to name the baby (I’m With Stupid Partin?) So David and Samantha have offered naming rights to their son on the open market, hoping to get more money. Apparently they are hoping that companies will be throwing Benjamins at them for chance to name their son Econo Lube Partin or Pedigree Chum Partin.

Well, the economy is bad, and money’s tight, and a name is just a string of letters… woah, hold on. These people are insane.

And, David plans to get his son’s name tattooed on himself. If their kid does end up named Chuck e Cheese Partin, the lucky winner will get two adverts for one.

Hey, why not sell advertising space on the baby’s head too? Remember that woman who had a casino’s web address tattooed on her forehead?
