According to reports published online, they have become the latest celebrities to welcome new additions to their families.

Elizabeth Hasselbeck Gives Birth to a Boy

Married to former professional football player Tim Hasselbeck, they already have two children together; a four-year old daughter named Grace, and a 21-month old son, Taylor Thomas. Reports indicate that she gave birth to another boy on Sunday in New York City. The baby’s weight was put at seven pounds, seven ounces. Her elated husband was quoted as saying, “Elisabeth and Isaiah are doing great and we’re excited about the addition of another baby boy into our family.”

The two were college sweethearts and were married on July 6, 2002. They welcomed their daughter in April 2005 and their first son in November 2007. Hasselbeck first came to public attention as a contestant on the reality show Survivor: The Australian Outback where she placed fourth. Initially she wanted a job behind the scenes but her agent encouraged her to audition for The View.

She has had some memorable moments on the show, most notably her arguments with former co-host Rosie O’Donnell. She took over the spot vacated by Lisa Ling in 2002. Hasselbeck suffers from celiac disease which is a disorder of the small intestine. She has written a book about living with the condition called The G-Free Diet: A Gluten-Free Survival Guide.

Patrick Wilson’s Welcomes His Second Son

For actor Patrick Wilson this is baby number two and his second son. His wife Dagmara Dominczyk gave birth on Sunday as well. A source was quoted as saying, “Mother and baby are both happy and healthy. Everybody’s great!” The baby’s name is Kassian McCarrell Wilson. Their first child, Kalin Patrick is three years old. Wilson and Dominczyk were married on June 18, 2005 and they both graduated from Carnegie Mellon University.

Patrick Wilson’s early career got a boost when he was praised for his work in the HBO mini-series Angels in America. After that he went on to appear in such films as The Alamo and The Phantom of the Opera. Most recently he played the role of Dan Dreiberg / Nite Owl II in the long awaited Watchmen.

Congratulations to both couples on the birth of their babies. There will be some adjustment to their growing families, but most likely they will adapt more quickly than first time parents tend to do. It’s always good when you have done it all before, of course that never makes the situation predictable.

According to recent reports, Elizabeth Hasselbeck of The View is now expecting her third child with husband Tim Hasselbeck. She made the announcement on her show and said she was a bit shocked at her new pregnancy.

Apparently she had spent a lot of time covering the recent Presidential race and thought she was just worn out from all the work. She was quoted as saying “I’m pregnant again! I’m due in August… We were thoroughly happy with the surprise of it. I didn’t even know for two months. I was walking around – I thought I had – I kept saying, ‘Electionitis, electionitis.” She added, “I was tired, I was nauseous, I thought I was worn out from the whole procedure. No. I was knocked up and didn’t realize it.”

The couple’s first child, Grace Elizabeth was born on April 6, 2005 and weighed 7 pounds 8 ounces. Their son, Taylor Thomas was born on November 9, 2007 and weighed 7 pounds 15 ounces. Hasselbeck and her husband were college sweethearts. She became a co-host of The View in November 2003. The show got big ratings thanks to some heated discussions she had with former co-host Rosie O’Donnell.

A personal quote from Hasselbeck found on imdb.com states “Pregnancy and motherhood are the most beautiful and significantly life- altering events that I have ever experienced.” I think that is a beautiful quote and probably sums it up for many women. Congratulations to the couple on this pregnancy, and we certainly wish them all the best.

Another expectant celeb is Chad Lowe. His girlfriend of two years, Kim Painter is expecting their first child. The baby, Lowe’s first is due this summer. He is the brother of actor Rob Lowe; Chad Lowe is probably best know as the ex-husband of Oscar winning, actress Hilary Swank. They finalized their divorce in 2007.

A spokesperson for the couple was quoted as saying “The couple is overjoyed and could not be happier.” Lowe has been a fixture on TV for years appearing in shows such as Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Without a Trace and 24. In 1989 he won an Emmy for playing the character, Jesse McKenna, an AIDS victim in the show Life Goes On.

Congratulations to Chad Lowe on what will no doubt be his biggest role. We look forward to the good news of the bay’s arrival in the summer.

Conservative columnist and author Anne Coulter has a new book to promote, so she’s been on all the talk shows lately. Never one to shy away from controversial topics, and certainly never one to take the middle ground on an issue, this round of self-publicity has drawn the most fire over her opinions on single mothers. Single mothers, according to Anne, raise rapists, strippers, runaways, and murderers, and are responsible for all of societies’ problems. Ironic then that she’s dressed as a call girl on the cover of the latest epic rant, Guilty: Liberal “Victims” and their attack on America.

I appreciate that Anne Coulter has worked out that the more controversy she generates, the more books she sells. But stirring up anger and resentment against a group of women who are by and large hardworking, nurturing, loving mothers, is doing society more harm than the very small minority of single moms who fit the stereotype that Coulter is peddling. She keeps ranting, and encouraging people to vote for politicians who won’t fund programs to assist single moms with childcare, employment and healthcare, and single moms will continue to struggle and fall of the bottom of the ladder, and their children will suffer.

And what about the fathers who abandon their responsibilities, who number far in excess than neglectful single mothers?

It’s wrong to label every single one of the approximate one-third of American mothers who are raising kids without the children’s father in the home.

Many serial killers – Ted Bundy being the most notorious – have been raised by single mothers with absent fathers, but others like Jeffrey Dahmer, the Hillside Stranglers, and David Berkowitz, the “Son of Sam” were all raised by married couples.

And conversely, Barack Obama was raised by a single mom. John McCain divorced his first wife, leaving her with full custody of their one child and two adopted children. And Sarah Palin’s unwed daughter is now an mom to baby Tripp.

And there’s me too. Is my son is going to grow up to be a murderer, rapist or stripper? He just learned to take his pants off and as toddlers do, has great enthusiasm for demonstrating his new skill, so he seems to have the qualifications for the last one. He’s also very good at building block towers and can recognize letters and numbers so I think it’s more likely he’ll be in construction or some kind of regular job that defies Anne Coulter’s expectations.

Coulter was on The View on Monday, getting into it with Whoopi Goldberg in particular, herself a single mom. If you’d like to fling something heavy at the computer or worship her outspokeness, you can catch it again on YouTube.

What do you think?

Everyone knows what the policy is in China when it comes to having children. It’s tough to judge them too harshly I guess, as they have to find some means of controlling their population. I sometimes wonder though just how far the Chinese government is willing to take it. With the world population continuing to grow, many people speculate that we are on our way to not being able to sustain it. I’m not too big on Doomsday theories myself, but is it possible that other nations may soon impose stricter laws restricting people’s reproductive rights?

Take for example, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar who already have 17 children, with another baby due in January of 2009. With Michelle just 42, there is the real possibility that the Duggars are not done having babies quite yet.

Recently a few celebrities weighed in on the discussion of family size. See who shares your opinion on whether or not a family can be too big.

The View co-host, Whoopi Goldberg feels that nobody has the right to judge. She says, ‘I think it’s to each their own and none of our business. If people want to have 30 kids and can afford it, it’s none of our business. Some people are very wealthy, only have one child and that’s too much for them. Some people have 18 children and they have it together?’

According to The Grand Dame of Dish, Liz Smith, ‘Doesn’t the number of children a family chooses to have fall under the “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” clause? Isn’t it a private matter, so long as a family can cope, care for and control in a healthy manner?’

Actress Lily Tomlin put it this way, ‘I’ve seen it written in information about overpopulation that “People are a good thing. Overpopulation isn’t.’

While it is in fact a private issue, maybe it’s not such a bad idea to view it in the context of the health care system, and programs like welfare. If a family is really able to care for a large number of children that is one thing, but those that aren’t would be forced to rely on others to meet the children’s needs.

What’s your view on this issue? Should any family be criticized for its size?
