Jardine Cribs Sold by Babies”R”Us Recalled Due to Entrapment and Strangulation Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Jardine Cribs

Units: About 320,000

Manufacturer: Jardine Enterprises, of Taipei, Taiwan

Hazard: The wooden crib slats and spindles can break, creating a gap, which can pose an entrapment and strangulation hazard to infants.

Incidents/Injuries: There have been 42 incidents of crib slats and spindles breaking. Four children became entrapped in the space created by a broken slat or spindle. Two of the children had abrasions and bruising.

Description: Jardine wooden cribs in various styles and finishes, as listed below, are included in this recall.

The model number is printed on the inside of the bottom rail of the headboard or footboard.

Sold at: KidsWorld, Geoffrey Stores, Toys ?R? Us, and Babies ?R? Us stores nationwide, and at babiesrus.com, from January 2002 through May 2008 for between $150 and $300, with one model, 0309K00 Mahogany Positano Lifetime Crib, which sold for $450.

Manufactured in: China and Vietnam

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled cribs and contact Jardine to receive a full credit toward the purchase of a new crib.

Douglas Co. Recalls Children’s Blankets Due to Strangulation Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Lil? Snugglers? Children?s Blankets

Units: About 74,000

Manufacturer: Douglas Co., of Keene N.H.

Hazard: The blanket?s satin edge can come loose, posing a strangulation hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has 18 reports of the satin separating from the blanket. No injuries have been reported.

Description: The recalled children?s blankets are 14 inches square with an animal head sewn in the middle. The satin border around the outside edge is about one inch wide. The blankets were sold in the following styles:

Remedy: Consumers should take the blankets away from children immediately and return it to Douglas for a free replacement blanket or credit toward another item of equal value.

Children’s Rain Ponchos with Drawstrings Recalled by Daiso Due to Strangulation Hazard

The following product safety recall was voluntarily conducted by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Consumers should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Children’s Rain Ponchos

Units: About 24

Importer: Daiso LLC, of Burlingame, Calif

Hazard: The garments have a drawstring through the hood, posing a strangulation hazard to children. In February 1996, CPSC issued guidelines (pdf) to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled on the neck and waist drawstrings in upper garments.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: The recalled plastic rain ponchos were sold in yellow or blue and have a drawstring in the hood. Japanese lettering is printed on the packaging.

Sold by: Daiso retail stores located in California and Washington states from February 2007 through November 2007 for $1.50.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately remove the drawstrings from the rain ponchos to eliminate the hazard.

Hazard: Spindles on the drop-side of the crib could loosen creating a gap that poses an entrapment and strangulation hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: Bassettbaby has received three reports of spindles coming loose. No injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall involves a full-size, drop-side crib from the Wendy Bellissimo Hidden Hills collection, model number 5446-0504. The model number is located on the bottom rail of the headboard. The crib was sold in a Navajo Pine finish. No other models are included in this recall.

Sold at: Babies “R” Us stores nationwide from November 2007 through January 2008 for about $400.
