Quite often that reputation is well deserved too. From time to time they do show the very human side of Hollywood. According to recent online reports, Terrence Howard, Ben Stiller, Willem Dafoe, Isabella Rossellini and others, have joined forces with jewelry giant Bulgari. The effort is part of a new Save the Children Rewrite the Future campaign.

The brand’s designers have come up with a line of sterling silver rings for the charitable endeavor. The rings will be engraved on the outside with ‘S. Bulgari’, as an homage to the founder of the jewelry brand. On the inside will be engraved ‘Save the Children’.

The rings will be sold for $290, and the celebrities involved will lend their famous faces to a print ad campaign supporting the project. The new ads will not only make people aware of the charitable effort, but also mark the 125th anniversary of the jewelry maker.

Save the Children is an international organization dedicated to providing for the needs of children worldwide. It was established in the UK in 1919 by sisters Eglantyne Jebb and Dorothy Buxton. Their hope at the time was to create a charity whose reach would extend to the farthest points of the globe.

Initially their efforts centered on providing aid to children in war torn areas. After similar offshoots sprang up in other countries, they eventually came together to form one body called the International Save the Children Union in 1920. Rewrite the Future was launched to improve the level of education of children in areas affected by fighting.

A number of other celebs are linked to various charities. Some of those working with charities benefiting children are

Kelsey Grammer – Save The Children

Kathie Lee Gifford – The Association to Benefit Children

Jane Fonda – Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention

Lorne Michaels – The Children’s Health Fund

In these trying economic times I know that not everyone will be able to shell out $290 for a ring, but for those who are able to, they will be contributing to a worthy effort. In the meantime we all have to whatever we can, no matter how small, to ensure that all children can be as happy as possible, and that they have a future to look forward to.
