Professional boxer, Laila Ali recently gave birth to a baby boy. The announcement was only just made on her website, although the baby was born on August 26. The baby?s father is former NFL star, Curtis Conway. They met at a party Curtis hosted at his house, and they got married on July 22, 2007. Among those in attendance at the small wedding were her parents, former heavyweight champion, Muhammad Ali and Veronica Porsche Anderson.

This is the first child for Laila, however, Conway has twin sons and a daughter from a previous marriage. The baby, who weighed 6.8 lbs, was named Curtis Muhammad Conway, Jr. I honor of his father and maternal grandfather.

Laila Ali currently holds a boxing record of 24 wins, with no losses. She has also managed to keep busy outside of the ring, participating in the fourth season of Dancing With the Stars. Currently she co-hosts American Gladiators with wrestler, Hulk Hogan. Ali got raves for her dancing alongside partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, at one point getting a ?10? from judge Len Goodman. She ended up placing third in the competition.

Good luck to Laila as she takes her first jabs at motherhood. Hopefully all those rounds in the ring will prepare Laila for this new sparring partner. Maybe the legacy of ?The Greatest? will continue.

Marissa Jaret Winokur, broadway star and last season’s Dancing With the Star finalist, must be dancing for joy at the arrival of her first-born. Born via surrogate, Zev Isaac Miller arrived last Tuesday, July 22nd weighing a healthy 8 lbs. 7 oz. Dad is King of the HIll writer, Judah Miller. The parents can’t help gush about their “miracle baby”. Seven years ago, Marissa battled and successfully recovered from cervical cancer. As part of the doctor’s aggressive treatment, her uterus was removed, rendering her unable to carry a child. Zev, translated to wolf in Hebrew, is the couple’s biological child.

And I’m betting mom Martie Maguire, of The Dixie Chicks, is singing with glee after giving birth to her 3rd daughter, Harper Rosie Maguire. The Maguire’s have a brood of all daughters as Harper Rose have big sisters Eva Ruth and Kathleen Emilie, 4 year old twins. Hopefully Dad Garreth Maguire is taking being outnumbered by the ladies just fine. Harper Rose was born Friday, July 25th, and tipped the scales at 7 lbs. 10 oz.

Tony Award winning Broadway star Marissa Jaret Winokur and her husband comedy writer Judah Miller are expecting their first baby in September. But doesn’t she look five months pregnant on Dancing With The Stars? The couple are expecting via a surrogate mother.

Marissa was diagnosed with cervical cancer at the very young age of 27. She needed a hysterectomy to treat the disease and made a full recovery, but thought she would never be able to have her own baby.

But last year, doctors implanted her fertilized egg into a surrogate mother’s womb, and now the surrogate is five months pregnant with a baby boy.

Congratulations to the Marissa and Judah! They say how grateful and excited they are to be able to become parents thanks to their surrogate.

Marissa and Judah are not the first celebrity couple to be able to have children with a surrogate mother. In November 2007, Dennis Quaid and wife Kimberly’s twins Thomas and Zoe were born. They are the biological parents of the babies, carried by the surrogate mother.

Dennis and Kimberly say of their twins, and their surrogate; “God has definitely blessed us.” I’m sure that’s a sentiment shared by every parent who has been given the gift of a child (or children!) by a wonderful surrogate mother.
