Two Hollywood family men are looking forward to adding to their families according to published reports.

Neal McDonough

McDonough reportedly let the cat out of the bag during a walk on the red carpet at the premiere of The Ugly Truth. His wife Ruve Robertson was with him, and there was no hiding the baby bump.

McDonough and Robertson have been married since December 2003 and since had two children: Morgan, 3, and Catherine Maggie, 2. The due date of the new baby has not yet been revealed.

McDonough is widely acknowledged to be a devoted family man. He is from a relatively large family, having 4 brothers and one sister. His family immigrated to the US from Ireland. After leaving Syracuse University he studied for a short period at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.

McDonough has a number of film and television appearances to his credit. His big screen roles include Walking Tall and Flags of Our Fathers. Currently he can be seen in the ABC hit Desperate Housewives where he plays Dave Williams.

David Boreanaz

For actor David Boreanaz this will be his second child. He reportedly was forced to miss his scheduled appearance at the recently held Comic-Con in San Diego, California. In his taped video for his fans he said, “I’m a little bit stuck in Los Angeles due to the fact that my wife is on her 34th week (of pregnancy with) our second child.”

Boreanaz and his wife Jaime Bergman have been married since November 2001 and have a son together. This is the second marriage for Boreanaz. He was previously married to Ingrid Quinn but that union ended in 1999. His first child, Jaden Rayne is seven years old.

Most fans probably know Boreanaz from his work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the spin off Angel. He currently stars in the series Bones playing FBI Agent Seeley Booth.

Congratulations to both of these celebrity dads on their upcoming arrivals. I look forward to the news of the births and maybe hearing their thoughts on fatherhood and family.

UK heartthrob Jude Law is going to be a dad again according to published reports. The woman in question is a former lover of the Alfie star. Mr. Law is no longer in a relationship with the individual concerned but he intends to be a fully supportive part of the child’s life.

Law has three children with his ex-wife Sadie Frost – Rafferty, 12, Iris, 8, and Rudy Indiana Otis who is 6. He and his ex-wife reportedly fought a custody battle for over two years.  The baby girl is due on october 6, the same birthday as law’s eldest child.

Jude’s Paternity Test

He reportedly kept the baby news under wraps because he wanted to be certain he was the father before the story broke. A source was quoted in Life & Style magazine saying, “Jude and the mother of the child had a DNA test done to prove that Jude was without a doubt the father.” Some people may be surprised to learn that this can be done before birth, and in fact it is not considered a routine procedure.

It does carry some risk, and it is usually limited to women experiencing pregnancy after 35, or who have a family history of genetic disease. DNA samples can be taken from the umbilical cord of a newborn to determine paternity. It usually takes up to 2 months to receive results in the case of an unborn child. For this reason, and because of the risks to the baby, most doctors advise against doing it.

Who’s the Mother?

Law reportedly met the mother while filming the upcoming Sherlock Holmes in New York. He plays Dr. Watson in the movie directed by Guy Ritchie. The mother, with whom Law had a brief fling, was eventually identified as model Samantha Burke. According to a quote from an insider, “After he left, she found out she was pregnant. She tried to reach him, but the cell phone number she had for him was a temporary number that he only used in New York while filming.”

The source also said that Law had no problem being a father to the baby, and that Burke was about 7 months pregnant. Part of a statement released by her attorney said, “… Since informing Mr. Law of the pregnancy, he has been nothing but responsive and supportive of Ms. Burke”

It is certainly good that Law is willing to take responsibility for his child. Some may criticize his decision to require a DNA test on an unborn child, but I can only hope that all necessary precautions were taken. I join others who no doubt hope for a safe delivery, and wish him the best of luck.

News about the death of the one time “oldest mother” at age 69, leaving behind her 31-month old twin boys, added sparks to the ongoing debate about age and parenthood. The question is basically “How old is too old to have a baby?” The answer has always been left for the biological clock to decide, a clock which seems to tick faster for women than for men. The latest developments in assisted reproduction and in vitro fertilization, however, enabled women to slow down their clock and put off childbearing as late as possible.

One major objection to advanced maternal age is the risk of leaving children motherless at a very young age, as now confirmed by the 69-year old mom’s death.

However, many people think it’s unfair that the age-parenthood question is always argued against women but seldom in men. What about the risk of leaving children fatherless and unprovided for? There are quite a number of men of “advanced paternal age” out there.

• Mel Gibson, 53, is not really the oldest but he is one of the most prolific. He has 7 children with ex-wife Robyn and his current girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva is expecting his 8^th child in the fall.

• Clint Eastwood supposedly fathered at least 7 children. The youngest is Morgan Eastwood, born in 1996 when her dad was 66. Her mom is Dina Ruiz, 35 years younger than Eastwood.

• Sir Michael John Gambon or rather, Professor Dumbledore. The stage and film Irish actor playing the part in the Harry Potter films. The 68-year old has three boys ranging from 44 to 2 weeks old.

• Hugh Hefner was 65 when his now 18-year old son Cooper was born in 1991. The 83-year old Playboy publisher has 4 children.

• Anthony Quinn. The oldest (if you exclude J. Howard Marshall) and the most prolific who supposedly fathered 10 children with 4 women. He was 81 years old when his youngest was born in 1996.

Although these old men are less likely to leave their little kids unprovided for, kids, too, need their dads in the early years of their life.

In a recent interview Diego Luna talked about fatherhood and how it has changed him. His wife Camila Sodi gave birth to their son last summer. The baby’s name is Jeronimo, and Luna says that every morning he looks forward to getting up and playing with him. Apparently this is a bit of a change for the formerly late riser. He was quoted as saying, “I love waking up with him. It’s the most beautiful thing ever. The morning was never so good. I used to hate mornings… I used to wear sunglasses. I started to function after 11 or 12.”

They say that being a parent can change you and it seems that Luna can attest to that. He added, “Now, at 5 a.m., I’m playing with my kid and changing diapers. You become a different man.” For many new parents the adjustment, especially to changes in sleep patterns, can be rough. Luna is right however, you do become a different person. Everything takes second place to your little bundle of joy.

He went on to explain his admiration for his wife after getting an even better understanding of the challenges of pregnancy and childbirth. “I have to say I became more in love with her when I realized what a good mother she is,” Luna is quoted as saying. He added, “When you are there and see what they (women) go through, it’s like, ‘Whoa!”

Luna was born in Mexico City on December 29, 1979. As a child he appeared in telenovelas, building quite a reputation for his acting skills. He has appeared in the critically acclaimed Y tu mamá también which was released in 2001. His work in US films has been largely supporting roles but Luna manages to shine alongside bigger stars. He recently played Jack Lira in Milk, the Oscar nominated movie about late US politician Harvey Milk.
We can expect to see more of this talented Mexican actor in the future. He already has three more films lined up for next year but it is too soon to tell how this will impact his early morning play sessions with his son.

Actor Jason Priestley must be feeling pretty good right now. In the latest bit of good news, his wife Naomi Lowde-Priestley gave birth to a baby boy last Thursday. This is the second child for the couple. They also have a two year old daughter, Ava. So far not many details have been offered about the newest Priestley. The only thing we know is that the baby was born in Los Angeles. Priestley and Naomi have been married since May, 2005. After the birth of Ava, the actor was quoted as saying, “I love being a father. It’s totally ineffable. I love changing diapers. I love the whole thing — I’m all in.” No doubt having to do this times two should bring even more joy to the pair.

Priestley won a legion of fans playing all around good guy Brandon Walsh on the hit series, Beverly Hills 90210. The show had quite a run from 1990 to 2000. Maybe only diehard fans know that Priestley was actually born in Canada – Vancouver British Columbia to be exact. During an appearance on Late Night with Conan O’Brien in July 2007, he revealed that he had become an American citizen weeks before.

He had been previously married to makeup artist Ashlee Petersen in 1999, but that union fell apart in 2000. His current wife is also a makeup artist. He has a twin sister named Justine Priestley who also acts. In fact he tried hard to get her to attend auditions for Beverly Hills 90210 so she could play his sister on the show.

Over the last few months celeb babies seem to be arriving almost every week. Congratulations to Jason Priestly and his wife Naomi on the birth of their second child. I wish him the best with his growing family.

UK actor Simon Pegg has become the latest celeb to welcome a new bundle of joy. His wife Maureen McCann had a baby girl over the weekend. Pegg’s representative confirmed the happy news but offered no further details.

Pegg has previously been quoted as saying that he was “hoping for a baby girl.” He was also happy with the prospect of the baby being born in the US saying, “It struck me that, technically, he or she could eventually become President of the United States. The potential is there.” Future Presidential aspirations aside, he does seem to want to be an involved and doting parent. He also said, “I want to be a really good dad, a good influence and a good role model – someone my child can turn to… It’s all to do with your attitude and making sure they stay grounded, but making sure they aren’t deprived of anything.”

Pegg and McCann have been married since July 2005. He is godfather to Apple, the daughter of rocker Chris Martin and actress Gwyneth Paltrow. Of course this is not much preparation for his own role as dad, but it certainly can’t hurt. Luckily he has his celeb friends to offer a few helpful tips along the way.

Since gaining fame in the US thanks to his starring role in Shaun of the Dead, Pegg has been quite busy. So busy in fact that he had suggested in the past that his baby would have to born in the US. Most recently he took on the iconic role of Montgomery “Scottie” Scott in the reboot of the Star Trek franchise directed by J.J. Abrams.

Pegg is not the only UK native considering raising his child on this side of the pond. Anna Friel has expressed a desire to raise her daughter Gracie Ellen Mary, in the US. Gracie’s father, actor David Thewlis was also born in the UK. No doubt Pegg’s parenting skills will be nothing like those of the character he displayed in the movie Run Fatboy, Run. Pegg played Dennis Doyle who abandoned his pregnant fiancé at the altar. Eventually he redeems himself by running a marathon. At 39, Pegg definitely seems grounded in his new role as a Hollywood celebrity. He seems likely to be busy for years to come, with The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn among his upcoming projects. That movie will be directed by none other than Steven Spielberg.

Congratulations to first time father Simon Pegg and his wife Maureen McCann on the new addition to their family. Sleepless nights may have him showing up on movie sets just a little worse for wear. Best of luck to this funny actor with his growing family and all his future projects.

Actor Matthew McConaughey recently celebrated his first Father’s Day with his girlfriend and first child Levi. According to reports the star took the opportunity to go online and share some good news with his fans. He and Camila are expecting another baby.

McConaughey broke the news on his official website. “Happy Father’s Day. It’s my first, and the last 11 months with Levi and Camila have been the most rewarding adventure to date. We have more blessed news to celebrate this Father’s Day that (will) make this time next year double the fun. Levi is going to be a big brother… Yeah, we pulled off the greatest miracle in the world one more time, Camila and I are expecting our second child, bringing more life into the world, making more to live for. The future looks bright as the family grows,” he wrote.

Of course, like any proud dad he spoke about his upcoming arrival at other times as well. Case in point the National Conference for Service and Volunteering that was recently held in San Francisco. The actor talked about his j.k. livin’ foundation as well as Levi’s sibling. He said of the foundation, “We are putting after-school fitness and wellness programs into undeserved communities nationwide, teaching physical fitness, nutrition education, with an emphasis on daily gratitude for how much or how little we have. And now that I’m blessed to be a father myself — I got one at home who’s 11 months and as you people know, we have another one in the oven, three months — this foundation and its cause means even more to me.”

As happens with so many of us, parenthood is clearly affecting the way he sees the world and his place in it. It is good that someone who has the visibility to make a difference can reach out to touch the lives of others. If being a father is what helps to inspire that drive to help the less fortunate then more power to him. He uses the j.k. livin’ foundation to allow himself as well as friends and fans to reach out to those in need.

Some people may jokingly call him a hippie because of his lifestyle, but so far he seems to be a pretty grounded dad. Good luck to them as they continue on this adventure called parenthood.

There are many older celebrity dads out there. Anthony Quinn, Chuck Norris, and Luciano Pavarotti are a few names that come quickly to mind. It’s not just women who are having children later in life, many men are also opting to do this, some for the first time.

Former Monthy Python star Terry Jones will soon be adding his name to that list. Jones is a popular figure in Britain. He was one of the founding members of the Monty Python comedy troupe. John Cleese, Eric Idle and Michael are some of the other well known names of the group.

According to reports, the comedian is set to become a father again with his girlfriend Anna Soderstrom. Jones and his ex-wife Alison Telfer already have two adult children Sally and Bill. They were married in 1970. Soderstrom at 26, is 41 years younger than Jones. The baby will be Soderstrom’s first.

The couple met at a book signing at Oxford University where Soderstrom was an undergraduate. Some time after that, Jones and his wife got divorced. Not surprisingly, the children and ex-wife of Jones are not too pleased at the news of his pending fatherhood. A source was quoted in Britain’s Daily Telegraph as saying, “Alison and the kids are a different proposition. For them it’s devastating and humiliating. They’ll never speak about it because they’ve got far too much dignity for that.”

The same source offered the view that this might be partially a question of manhood for Jones. According to the source, “He doesn’t seem fazed by it, but everyone else is. If anything it’s a classic case of male pride taking over. Getting a young filly pregnant shows there’s life in the old dog yet.” I am sure that there are many who would agree with this assessment.

The new arrival is expected in autumn 2009. Hopefully all parties will be able to put any negative feelings aside after the baby is born as so often happens. Whatever happens, I hope that for the sake of the baby everyone will be able to move on although I know it will be difficult.

Well it seems like 2009 is shaping up to be a busy year as far as celebrity births are concerned. Charlie Sheen, Tim Allen and Scott Wolf are just a few of the actors who have welcomed recent additions to their families. According to the latest reports, the wives of Toby Maguire and Taye Diggs are both pregnant.

This will be the second child for the star of the Spiderman franchise Tobey Maguire. He and his wife Jennifer Meyer already have a girl named Ruby who is now 2 years old. While the couple has declined to offer any details, they were recently spotted doing some shopping for baby stuff. Alert spies reportedly claimed that they were seen getting a blue crib and other items.

A Blue crib… Well I guess that settles it. Unless of course he is trying to throw everybody off track. It wouldn’t be the first time a celeb has done something like that to try to maintain their privacy. The new baby is due in spring. Maguire and Meyer have been married since September 2007. Whether it is a boy or girl I wish for them as worry free a pregnancy as possible.

Actor Taye Diggs is no doubt anxious for the birth of his first child. His wife Idina Menzel is expected to give birth sometime later in the year. They met when they both appeared in the hit Broadway show Rent. They also co-starred in anther Broadway production Wicked. They got married in 2003 at the same resort in Jamaica where he filmed his breakout movie How Stella Got Her Groove Back.

Menzel has made no secret of her husband’s desire to start a family. She was quoted in an interview as saying, “It’s definitely in the plans. I’ll settle down and start popping out some babies.” I know a lot of people are probably thinking ‘I wish it was that easy.’ She also added that Diggs, “always wanted kids. He grew up with four younger brothers and sisters, so he’s very comfortable around children.”

Actor Scott Wolf is now a father, according to recently published reports. The former Party of Five star and his wife Kelley Limp welcomed their son Jackson Kayse Wolf into the world on March 22. The baby’s weight was 7 pounds. The elated new dad was quoted on People.com as saying, “Kelley and I are having the time of our lives. Words can’t describe the love we have for our son Jackson. He is the most fun person we have ever met, and we feel so lucky he has joined our family.”

The couple has been married since May, 2004. Limp has appeared on MTV’s The Real World: New Orleans. Apart from Party of Five, Wolf is known for his work on the TV shows Everwood and The Nine. He has also done some work on the big screen in films such as Go and White Squall.

Another actor celebrating a new addition to his family is comedian Tim Allen. His wife, actress Jane Hajduk gave birth to a girl on Saturday March 28. The couple named the baby Elizabeth. Her weight was 5 pounds 13 ounces.

A statement released by his publicist said that mom and baby were doing fine and that the couple was “thrilled” to welcome little Elizabeth into the world. This is the second child for Allen. He has a daughter, 19-year old Katherine from his previous marriage to Laura Deibel.

Allen enjoyed an eight year run as everybody’s favorite tool man on the ABC sitcom, Home Improvement. Since then he has gone on to big screen success with hits such as the Santa Clause and the Toy Story franchises.

As a comic Allen is known for weaving aspects of everyday life into his routine. With a new baby he will have plenty of brand new material if he ever plans to hit the stand up circuit again. Thanks to his success on Home Improvement he now has his own line of signature tools. If he actually knows how to use them, childproofing should be a piece of cake.

Congratulations to Scott Wolf and Kelley Limp on what will no doubt be an exciting time in their lives. The same goes for Tim Allen and Jane Hajduk.

According to recent online reports, tennis star Roger Federer is expecting his first child with his girlfriend Miroslava ‘Mirka’ Vavrinec. The two have been dating since 2000. She was also a tennis player, and like her famous beau represented Sweden in the 2000 Olympics. She was forced to retired from competition because of a recurring foot injury in 2002. Since then she has been Federer’s public relations manager.

Federer made the joyous announcement on his website on Thursday. The statement read, “Mirka and I are excited to let you know that we will be parents this summer! Mirka is pregnant and we are so happy to be starting a family together. This is a dream come true for us. We love children and we are looking forward to being parents for the first time. Mirka is feeling great and everything is going well.”

There is a lot you can say about Federer’s storied career in tennis. Widely regarded as the best player of all time, he has set a number of records in the sport. Among the notables are, winning the most consecutive US Open titles, and being ranked number one in the world for 237 straight weeks. His title haul includes 13 Grand Slam titles, with five Wimbledon victories among them. He also won gold in the doubles at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Since this is Federer’s fist trip to Dad land for the 27-year old, perhaps he can get advice from fellow tennis pros Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras who both have two children. Both are now retired from the sport, so they might be available to offer a few tips.

Sampras is married to actress Bridgette Wilson, and their children are Christian Charles and Ryan Nikolaos. Andre Agassi married to Steffi Graf, herself also a dominant force on the courts for a while. The union has so far produced two children, Jaden Gil and Jaz Elle.

Good luck to Roger Federer and Miroslava Vavrinec. I look forward not only to the birth of his first child but also his continued achievements on the courts.

Hollywood star Kevin Costner and his wife Christine Baumgartner have just had another son. According to reports, they named the baby Hayes Logan Costner. He was born on Thursday, February 12, and weighed 8 lbs 15 oz. Costner’s representative Arnold Robinson was quoted as saying, “Both mother and son are doing well.” In a recent radio interview Costner revealed his plans to name the baby Hayes, saying it was a “great Western name.” Costner is known to be a fan of the Western genre.

Costner and Baumgartner already have another son, Cayden Wyatt, who was born in May 2007. The couple has been married since September 2004. Costner was previously married to Cindy Silva, who was his childhood sweetheart, however they divorced in 1994. That union produced three children, Joe, Annie and Lily. Costner is also father to Liam, who was born in 1996 during a short relationship with Bridget Rooney.

As far as Hollywood is concerned, Costner has certainly had his ups and downs. Once a hot property in the industry his box office appeal has waned, but he still has many fans. Early in his career he was known for hits such as The Untouchables, No Way Out and Field of Dreams. He had a blockbuster hit in 1992 when he teamed with singer Whitney Houston for The Bodyguard.

After the film Waterworld misfired, he lost some of his Hollywood luster, but he still kept on working. Some of his more notable recent movies are Mr. Brooks, Dragonfly and The Upside of Anger.

With six children Costner can now be seen as one of the busier celebrity parents, especially since he is still pretty much a working actor. At 54 he is also in the older dads group, something which should make this experience even more interesting for him. He was once quoted as saying about fatherhood, “I can’t say I really see much difference between my son and daughters except that my girls will occasionally make me a sandwich and my son won’t.” How’s that for perspective?
