Postpartum depression can affect anyone regardless of social status or wealth. The list of celebs who have had to gain control of this very real part of pregnancy and childbirth continues to grow. The latest celebrity to admit to having suffered from postpartum depression is singer Marie Osmond.

Reports published recently online revealed that in 1999 following the birth of her son Matthew she had the worst case of the baby blues ever. While admitting that she had baby blues in previous births, with Matthew it was bad and became more than just that. In an interview published online at the Daily Mail website, Osmond said, “Then one day, she snapped. I remember walking down the stairs and putting Matthew in the arms of the nanny. I can’t stay here, I told her. There is something wrong, really wrong with me. I have to leave until I figure it out.”

Thankfully, her husband and mother helped her seek treatment and she got better. Osmond said she was shocked to know her own mother had also had her own battle with the demon of postpartum depression.

Symptoms of Postpartum Depression

It is important to identify the symptoms of Postpartum depression so that help can be found before disaster strikes. Some of the most commons symptoms include:

• Thoughts of suicide

• Thoughts of harming the baby or even others

• Extreme anxiety

• Elevated levels of stress

• Change in sleep pattern

• Desire to stay in bed

• Loss of appetite

The feelings of Postpartum depression are far more elevated than those of baby blues which affects many new moms. If you or a loved one is pregnant, start learning about this potentially serious condition before the birth so as to be prepared.

Other Celebrities Who Battled Postpartum Depression

Another celebrity who has had to deal with the condition is Brooke Shields. She was lambasted by Tom Cruise for talking about using prescription medication to deal with postpartum depression. Shields went on to write a book which she hoped would help other women, Down Came the Rain: My Journey Through Postpartum Depression. Others include Gwyneth Paltrow, actress Gena Lee Nolin formerly of Baywatch who had the condition with all three of her children; Angelina Jolie, Courteney Cox-Arquette, Amanda Peet and Lisa Marie Presley.

Suri Cruise is an adorable little girl. I find myself stopping to read captions about her unbelievable wardrobe, her activities, and recently, her favorite play things, when skimming through magazines or visiting celeb websites.

Each photo I have seen so far has featured her with very classic, non-commercial plush characters in tow. There was one with a large plush giraffe, several of her carrying the British bear, Paddington, a few with Curious George and a few with one of my favorites, Olivia the Pig.

I have seen the Olivia books at my nieces’ house and in bookstores and plan to get them for our baby boy. We do have several Curious George books but I don’t recall ever buying our boys a stuffed Curious George.

It’s interesting to me that I have yet to see Suri with a Barbie (okay, maybe she’s a bit young for them), anything in the Disney princess theme, or any character from popular TV shows or movies, like Dora the Explorer. Upon thinking about this, I started to wonder if this reflects any of the values of Scientology, the religion/philosophy followed by parents Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.

I heard a bit of a recent Tom Cruise interview, in which he said that they tend to deemphasize the material aspect of Christmas in their home. That’s very nice but please-a two year old dressed in Juicy Couture is not lacking in material things!

Based on her favorite characters, I gather that Suri is not exposed to a lot of television but instead exposed more to books. I like this. I like that she totes around Curious George and Paddington the bear, characters which were around when I was a kid. These characters have withstood the test of time. Our kids read about them, love them and we can relate. I’m on a mission to introduce our new little guy to the classics, including Pooh Bear and the Cat in the Hat.

I’ll be looking out for more of Suri’s favorite tag-along pals and playthings.

Not even a month after giving birth to son Samuel Kai, Naomi Watts is back on the red carpet looking like nothing ever happened. She told People magazine that she lost a lot of weight when she delivered Samuel (well, duh) and she’s lost the rest through breastfeeding. I suspect this may not be the whole truth – extreme diet and many hours on the treadmill perhaps? I don’t know if that’s the truth, but it’s not normal or natural to loose weight that fast.

What choices Naomi Watts makes is up to her, but the simpering People article really irritates me. Beginning with  “New moms, eat your hearts out. ” Because we are supposed to be jealous that she’s a twig again? Yeah, it’s depressing that she looks freaking phenomenal for a 40-year-old mom of two but her job is looking good, she’s got a nanny,  and us mortals want to do stuff like, well, look after our babies.

Most doctors tell post-natal moms that it just isn’t healthy to start any weight loss or exercise program until at least six weeks after delivery. Your body needs to take that time to recover from the birth, it needs nourishment and rest, not diet and exercise.

It’s taken me almost three years to get back into shape after the birth of my son. So I wasn’t trying very hard or very consistently… I did more eating cake and playing with my son than cardio and I am perfectly happy with my choices. What I wanted to do in the first month after my son was born was to hold him and sing to him and nurse him and smell the top of his head and just be amazed at this tiny little person who was changing and growing and becoming more incredible every day. And eat cake. I had zero desire to go running. I kinda feel bad for Naomi for missing out on that in the quest to get skinny and go to premiers.

Hollywood moms are not all like that though. Salma Hayek told Oprah recently that she still hasn’t lost all the weight she gained when pregnant with her toddler daughter, Valentina. And in the news this week, former Spice Girl Emma Bunton told reporters that she took a year to loose the baby weight from her son, Beau, and she did it with sensible eating and exercise. “It’s got to be about balance though, being healthy but not letting it rule your life,” she says.”When my friends ask me ’round and say, ‘Let’s get a pizza,’ I would hate to be the only person picking at the pepperoni.” Good for you, girl!

Post-natal moms? Look after yourselves, ignore ridiculous celebrities, and let’s hear it for pizza!

Baby names are definitely a personal thing. What is classic to some is old fashioned and stuffy to others. You may think a name is beautiful and others just think it’s weird. There are definitely trends in baby names, there are some odd ducks out there who give their kids unkind names, and then celebrities take the cake for the bizarre.

Take my son’s name, for example. When he was born, we lived in another country. I named him Jacob, not personally knowing a soul with that name, but feeling like it was one of those fit-in-while-standing-out kind of names. Little did I know it was the most popular name of the year for a boy, and would be for another three years straight. We came back to the US and everywhere we looked there was a Jacob. Poor kid. He likes his name, but every class he’s in, every sports team he’s on, he contends with at least one more boy with the same name. If he had been a girl, we would have named him Grace. It was a bit of an old-lady name, somewhere far back in the top-100 names of that year, but we thought it sounded sweet.

So when I found out I was pregnant last year, and that it was a girl, we went straight back to Grace. And that’s when I discovered it was now in the top-10 names for girls. *sigh* We decided we’d be unusual and give her one of those double-names, like MaryJane or BillyJo. The result: AnnaGrace. Lo and behold, sitting in the waiting room of her pediatrician’s office, some lady told me: oh, yeah, double names are real trendy right now. *double sigh*

Of course, we could avoid all of this follow-the-trend thing by being like celebrities. Go way back and dig up MoonUnit (Frank Zappa). Reach back just a few years to Sage Moonblood (Sylvester Stallone) or the more benign Apple (Gwyneth Paltrow). Or, you could just look back a month to Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa.

Say what?

When actress Lilakoi Moon (formerly known as Lisa Bonet, a “Cosby Show” kid, Moon is currently in “Life on Mars”), and her husband, Jason Momoa of “Stargate: Atlantis,” had their second child in December, that’s what they named him. The news just broke this week on Momoa’s wesbite. His name is Hawaiian, like his daddy’s. And it breaks down to something reminiscent of a Native American descriptor. “He was born on the stormiest, rainy night, so Nakoa (warrior)…Mana(strength/spirit) Kaua (rain) po (dark)….” she wrote. “The name was always going to be Nakoa-Wolf, but Jason did the research on first [and] middle name. [The] 2nd middle name, as you know, is Jason’s.” They spared their not-quite-two year old daughter the same torture. Her name is Lola Iolani.

In many ways, it’s not as bad as, say, the Pennsylvania couple who named their son Adolf Hitler Campbell. I mean, the poor kid can’t even get a birthday cake. But his dad is right about one thing: no one else in the world will have his name! Of course, when we were kids, we all chuckled about someone named Ophelia Butts or Ima Hogg.

Well, to each his own. I suppose we all have the right to change our names if we don’t like what our parents picked, right? And I think if I ever have another baby again, I will not tell people what I’m planning to the child until the day he or she is born.

During its 8 year run, didn’t you love watching Full House? OK, so a lot of people just remember cute little Michelle, played by the identical twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. But their older sister, the talkative and feisty Stephanie, was the one that I identified with. Today, Jodie Sweetin, the actress who portrayed Stephanie, is struggling to make sure her own daughter doesn’t grow up without a mom.

Sweetin (26) filed for legal separation from her husband Cody Herpin on Nov. 19, 2008. At the time, she requested joint custody of their daughter Zoie, 9 months. But despite attending a treatment program, her former addictions to alcohol and methamphetamines is getting in the way. On December 4, Herpin accused Sweetin of relapsing after Sweetin admitted to drinking some wine. Her husband is seeking sole custody. This week, the couple attended mediation in the hopes of avoiding an extended custody battle.

Although their current parenting arrangement is 50-50, Sweetin must be in the presence of one of her own parents when she has her baby girl.

I’ve never gone through this kind of battle before, but I have lived it vicariously through one of my sisters and some friends. That was bad enough. I can’t imagine the pain and heartbreak of having your children taken away. Even if a person really isn’t fit to have custody, that wouldn’t necessarily make it easy for the parent (or for the children). And of course, it’s always difficult to know when a parent is sincerely trying to do what’s in the best interest of the child, and when that person is using the kids as a tool for revenge against an estranged spouse.

If it weren’t bad enough for a couple to do this kind of thing privately, it must be doubly hard to do it under the watching eye of the American media and bloggers like me. But if you remember Sweetin and have an interest in this matter, their next hearing is set for Feb. 9.

Besides acting (catch her in Redefining Love, releasing on Valentine’s Day), Sweetin is working on a book about being a child star and about her personal struggles.

Most Americans know John Travolta and his wife Kelly Preston—both famous actors. So we can all join in our thoughts and prayers for his family at this time. Son Jett, 16, died suddenly Friday while the family was on vacation.

Authorities believe he had a seizure, then fell and hit his head on the bathtub. He was in the family’s vacation home in the Bahamas. Jett, who has a history of seizures, was found unconscious by a maid. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. An autopsy is still pending, but Obie Wilchcombe, a member of Bahamas’ parliament notes that the country’s health ministry is “very, very quick to resolve things.”

Wilchcombe also said that his parents, “spent a tremendous amount of time with Jett…There was a close affectionate relationship and lots of love.” This relationship was seconded by Travolta’s attorney who said “There was unspoken communication between the two… It’s just so hard.” Travolta and Preston also have an 8-year-old daughter, Ella Bleu.

When Jett was just 2, he had a close brush with death, as well. Suffering from Kawasaki disease, his parents led him through a detoxification program they believe saved his life. After that, his parents became, “obsessive about his space being cleaned. We constantly had the carpets cleaned,” Travolta said in 2001. Their practices stemmed from their faith in Scientology, which both Travolta and Preston practice.

Those of us who have never lost a child can only sympathize. Those who have shared this unspeakable pain can empathize and do their best to support the family with respectful prayers and thoughts. Our hearts go out to you.

One celebrity or another seemed to announce her pregnancy, deliver a baby, or deliver twins almost daily in 2008. Never mind the latest it-handbag, babies are by far the most fashionable accessory in Hollywood.

Here’s a rundown of some of the highlights of the celebrity baby year!

Mom working furthest into her pregnancy: Amy Poehler on Saturday Night Live performing her infamous moose rap with Sarah Palin just seven days before giving birth to son Archie.Best Celebrity Baby Name: That’s a hard one. My favorites are Harper Rosie, daughter of Dixie Chick Martie Maguire, and Harlow Winter Kate, daughter of Nicole Ritchie.

Worst Celebrity Baby Name: Bronx Mowgli Wentz, son of Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Pete Wentz. Bronx Wentz? Try saying that three times fast.

Most Expensive Baby Photos: We don’t know for sure, but we are guessing that it’s Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s twins, Vivienne and Knox.  Photos of their first baby, Shiloh, sold for $4 million, Jennifer Lopez recived $6 million for her twins, and the sum paid for Vivienne and Knox’s snaps is reportedly a “record” we can only imagine they are the most expensive baby pictures ever. As with Shiloh’s photographs, the Jolie-Pitts donated the money to charity.

Most Normal Celebrity Moms: A parade of Hollywood stars taking their babies and toddlers to the Hollywood Pumpkin Patch. See, they are just like us. Albeit with high heels.

There’s Defnitely Something in the Water: The must have celebrity trend? Not it-bags, not a baby – the most fashionable accessory seems to be twins. Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Lopez, Marcia Cross, Lisa-Marie Presley, Diane Farr, Ricky Martin,  Tony Dovolani, Nancy Grace all became parents of twins, and Charlie Sheen, Jenna Jameson and Rebecca Romijn are expecting twin babies.

Skinniest Pregnant Mom: Nicole Kidman. Aussie Nicole Kidman barely seemed to gain weight with her pregnancy. We know it’s vital to be invisible when you turn sideways to make it in Hollywood, but surely the rules are relaxed when you are pregnant? I was pleading for you to eat a burger, Nicole. Or lasagne. Mac & Cheese? Anything with cheese is good. Growing babies love cheese. And food, in general.

Most Delightful Disregard of Hollywood Standards: Has to go to Salma Hayek, for still nursing her 14-month-old daughter and prioritizing her baby above diet and exercise. Way to go, Salma!

What was your favorite celebrity pregnancy moment of 2008? What is your favorite and least favorite baby names?

I’m planning to take my son to a pumpkin patch this weekend. We have an nearby apple orchard and pumpkin patch with hayrides and a petting zoo that he had a blast at when we visited last year. The leaves here are changing color and we have had some beautiful fall days so I’m really looking forwards to it.

If you have a picky eater, almost any baby or toddler will eat an apple that they picked themselves! Then there’s all the mess and fun of carving your pumpkin. Younger children can paint a pumpkin instead without needing anything sharp.

Turns out mere mortals are not the only ones who take their children to pumpkin patches. Celebrities take their kids too: they just do it in higher heels than most of us!

Gwen Stefani, Gavin Rossdale and their older son Kingston were snapped at the Hollywood pumpkin patch this weekend. Model Shauna Sand and her daughters visited on the same day.

Tobey Maguire, wife wife Jennifer Meyer and their daughter Ruby Sweetheart also went to pick pumpkins. Marcia Cross and her twin daughters visited too.

It’s a bit cold here for the kind of dress Gwen looks so gorgeous in…and I’ll be leaving my heels at home too. Nevertheless I think we’ll have just as good a time as the Hollywood folks do.

It was the most gorgeous day yesterday, one of those early fall days where everyone wants to be outside in the sunshine as much as possible because winter is only a few weeks away. I took my son to the local playground, and ran into another mom I know, her sister, and their children.

One of the moms had to run to the car, leaving her baby with her sister. The baby started to wail that his mom was leaving, and the first mom jokingly suggested she nursed him to calm him down until his mom got back.

You know when you are joking, but there’s actually a little truth in what you say?

Nursing another woman’s child is unthinkable for many of us. And there’s even legislation against it: In the state of Oklahoma it’s actually illegal to nurse another woman’s baby without a special state issued license.

But before infant formula existed, it was common for a woman to nurse a baby that wasn’t her own. It’s an everyday event in countries where formula is unavailable or too expensive for most families. What else could you do for babies who’s moms died in childbirth, or where their mother was sick, couldn’t or just didn’t want to look after the baby? The easiest solution is to find another nursing mom.

Often upper-class women hired women to look after their babies, including nursing them, as they considered breastfeeding beneath them, or because of social pressure on them to not breastfeed.

But today, in the western world, where infant formula is safe and widely available, nursing another baby has become unthinkable. Health reasons are a large part of this, as we know that diseases like AIDS and Hepatitis can be transmitted through breast milk. And there’s the modern trend of thinking of body functions are private, so therefore breastfeeding should be discrete and between a mom and her baby.

But formula is not perfect, and very early premature babies often can’t digest even the most sophisticated formula. In a situation with a premature baby, and a mom who can’t breastfeed – common in early preemies, born before the mother has started to produce milk – donated breast milk is used to feed the baby. Several hospitals operate breast milk banks for lactating moms to pump and donate breast milk. The milk is screened for pathogens, pasteurized, and used to feed premature babies. It’s saved many premature babies lives.

There have been situations where a breastfeeding mom has been in an accident, in a coma, or needing medication that stopped her breastfeeding, and her baby was fed by other nursing moms until she recovered.

And in the spirit of upper-class ladies who considered it beneath them to nurse their own babies, Hollywood moms can hire wet nurses to feed their babies. Celebrity staffing agencies offer lactating nannies to nurse celebrity babies. Perhaps because silicone-enhanced breasts often can’t produce milk, or breastfeeding is so time consuming if you have to jet-set around the world, make movies and party?

But what about when a breastfeeding mom feeds another mom’s baby in a non-lifesaving situation? Is that unacceptable, or are we all just too squeemish about breastfeeding in 2008?

Nicole Kidman has given birth to a baby girl, Us Magazine reports. The actress delivered 6-pound, 7-ounce Sunday Rose Kidman Urban on Monday morning.

It is the first child together for the Oscar-winning actress and her country music singer husband Keith Urban, 40. Kidman has two adopted children ? Connor, 13, and Isabella, 15 ? with her ex, Tom Cruise.

After the birth, Urban wrote on his Web site: “Earlier this morning, Nic gave birth to our beautiful baby girl, Sunday Rose Kidman Urban. We want to thank everybody that has kept us in their thoughts and prayers. We feel blessed and grateful that we can share this joy with all of you today.”

Us Weekly is reporting that Naomi Watts and her boyfriend Liev Schreiber are expecting their second child together.

Watts, 39, is reportedly in her second trimester. She and Schreiber, 40, welcomed their first child, a son, Alexander Pete, in July of last year. The pair starred in “The Painted Veil” together, and have been dating since 2005.

People magazine reports that Jessica Alba and husband Cash Warren are the proud parents of a baby girl.

Honor Marie Warren was born June 7 in Los Angeles. She is the couple’s first child.

Alba, 27, and Warren, 31, married in a quiet ceremony on May 19 at the courthouse in Beverly Hills. The couple met while working on Fantastic Four, and became engaged last December.

Alba recently told Fit Pregnancy that she plans to walk the line between tough and nurturing when it comes to her parenting style. “I don’t want to be my child’s best friend. I want to be a mom,” she said. “But I do want my child to come to me when they have problems and need to talk, so it’s going to be about treading that line.”

Congrats to the new parents!

Gillian Anderson, known for her role as Scully on the “X-Files” series, is expecting her second child with boyfriend Mark Griffiths.

The “X-Files” actress and the businessman are parents to 18-month-old son Oscar.

Anderson, 39, has a 13-year-old daughter, Piper, with her production designer ex-husband, Clyde Klotz. She and her second husband, documentary filmmaker Julian Ozanne, split in April 2006 after 16 months of marriage.

Anderson reunites with co-star David Duchovny for “The X-Files: I Want to Believe,” the second feature film to be spun off from the popular TV series. The movie will be in theaters July 25.

Congrats to Gillian and Mark!

TMZ is reporting that Clay Aiken, 29, will be a father this August. Jaymes Foster, 50, a record producer and Clay?s best friend with whom he lives, is pregnant with his baby, according to reports.

Reports are saying that she was artificially inseminated with his sperm. He says he is planning to take an active role in raising the baby, whom reports say is a boy.

Foster, sister of major record industry executive David Foster, divorced a few years ago. It will be the first child for both Foster and Aiken.

I’m surprised to hear Nicole Kidman is joining the likes of Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, and plans to be posing for nude photographs later in her pregnancy. Belly photos can be absolutely beautiful, especially if you have a great photographer like glossy magazine darling Patrick Demarchelier, whom Nicole has apparently commissioned to take the shots. But she seems so quiet and retiring, and while it’s one thing to have photos taken for yourself, it’s quite another to have them published for all the world to see.

Perhaps her good taste and judgement meter is not operating properly? She had the sense to ditch batty old “cure post-partum depression with vitamins” Tom Cruise, but then she hooks up with oily chest-hair baring Keith Urban. And she sometimes dresses in Bacofoil. And fishscales. So perhaps we shouldn’t be all that surprised.

OK, enough with the digs. She looks very happy, and glowing, and I wish her and Keith all the best. Nicole is also a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN’s Development Fund for Women, and has been speaking out against violence towards women, which she calls “most widespread human rights violation of our time.” Only 98 countries out of the 200-ish in the world have any laws against domestic violence. And even in countries like the USA existing laws can be hard to enforce, and certainly don’t deter men from acts of violence against their partners. So good for you Nicole, I hope you’ll be able to make a difference.

And back to the pictures….I’m a trashy celebrity magazine junkie. Will I be reading whichever magazine buys the photos? Yup. And I’m steeling myself against wailing at the checkout at how unfair life is for the amount of stretchmarks she hasn’t got. Or perhaps she will have stretchmarks. Imagine, celebrities showing they are mere mortals just like us? Now that would be worth seeing!

Beyonce and Jay-Z married last month in an ultra-secretive wedding in New York, and now tabloids like the New York Post are reporting news that Beyonce is pregnant. The couple won’t even confirm that the April 4th event – flowers, family, close friends, everyone in white – was their wedding, but they applied for a New York marriage licence the week before and it sure looked like someone was getting hitched!

Beyonce was spotted with what looked like a baby bump in New York this week, and sources close to the couple apparently have confirmed the pregnancy. Many congratulations to the couple if the rumors are true.

Perhaps tellingly, Beyonce’s glittery, tacky clothing line, House of Dereon, which is designed together with her Mom, Tina Knowles, recently launched a range of girls – and baby – clothing. And not without controversy.

Adverts running in the press this week for the glittery, tacky, little girls’ clothes show very young girls plastered in makeup and accessorized with feather boas, looking like mini pageant queens. I’m guessing that the advert is trying to show how rich little girls play dress-up, but to me, it just looks nasty. It’s bad enough that magazines aimed at teenagers show skinny, rich kids dressed in barely-there designer clothes. And now the advertising world has to make six-year-olds feel they aren’t rich enough, skinny enough, or blinged out enough?

If Beyonce and Jay-Z really are expecting (and not just had a cheeseburger for lunch) I hope she’ll be thinking whether she’d like her potential daughter dressed and styled in clothes like the ones she has for sale?

Congratulations to Oscar-winning actress Minnie Driver, star of FX’s The Ritches, who is expecting her first baby. Minnie revealed her pregnancy on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno last week but hasn’t revealed who the father is. She’s just over 4 months along.

She also said she was still suffering from morning all day sickness, (yuck. I sympathise) but that she was enjoying her pregnancy.

Minnie has had some famous boyfriends, like John Cusack, Criss Angel, Matt Damon and most recently Josh Brolin, although they are said to have split up.

At least if there’s no man in the picture, she won’t have some dude waving stinking nachos around like my husband did when I had morning sickness.

I`ve vowed not to write about celebrities but I just can`t resist this. I just find Matt Damon awesome as an actor and as a person.

Matt and his wife Luciana Bozan are expecting their second child later this year, according to celebrity sites. Their first child, Isabella, will turn 2 in June. Matt is one of Hollywood`s best-paid actors. Luciana is an interior designer who has another daughter from a previous marriage. Matt is 37 and Luciana is 32.

In this series, I will write about each of 10 most common (and sometimes silly) questions that mom of twins/multiples are asked.

Question # 1: Are they identical?
This is a fairly common and (I think) reasonable question though usually people can tell just by looking at my twin boys. They are alike as 2 peas in a pod, so they say. I would tend to disagree to the latter statement but that`s another story.

There are instances, however, when people would ask the same question even after learning that the twin babies in question are a boy and a girl. Identical (a.k.a monozygotic) twins are always of the same gender ? period. It goes without saying that a boy-and-girl set are fraternal (a.k.a dizygotic) twins.

About 22 out of a thousand pregnancies will produce dizygotic twins although this rate is increasing. Only 4 out of a thousand pregnancies results in monozygotic twins. There is a 3rd type of twins, called polar body twins, but this is very rare. Monozygotic twins have identical genetic make up. Dizygotic twins do not and genetic resemblance will be just like between normal siblings. Polar body twins have identical genes from their mom but different genes from their dad.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen (actors) are identical twins.

Evan and Jeremy Jaron Lowenstein (singers) are also identical twins.

Alanis Morissette has a twin brother.

Both Justin Timberlake and Elvis Priestly supposedly had twins who died at birth.

Celebrities who are parents of twins:

Julia Roberts is mom to Phinnaeus Walter and Hazel Patricia, now aged 3.

Marcia Cross is mom to Savannah and Eden who will turn 1 next month.

Dennis Quaid is dad to Thomas Boone and Zoe Grace, just over 2 months.

Princess Maxima and Prince Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands are parents to crown princesses Amalia and Alexia.

It’s been long-rumored in the tabloids that many celebrities have had an elective cesarean birth, and a tummy tuck along with it. Other claims include anorexic diets, and 8-month cesareans to avoid gaining too much weight. (Could any mom really do that?)

No celebrity mom has ever confirmed that they’ve had either procedure, but with Hollywood stars appearing on the red carpet 3 weeks after giving birth looking amazingly thin, you have to wonder.

Beginning in California (where else?) many plastic surgeons are now marketing the “mommy makeover”, a plastic surgery package of a breast lift, optional breast implants, a tummy tuck and liposuction, advertised directly to mothers.

Last year, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons performed an incredible 325,000 mommy makeovers.

Is this a good thing to market, or are the surgeons taking advantage of new mothers? Seeing models and actresses looking fabulous right after delivery doesn’t do your self confidence any good. Are they exploiting women who should really be proud of all the amazing things their body has just accomplished?

Pregnancy didn’t do my body any favors – I’d have a boob job, and lipo, and anything and everything they can throw at my stretch marks. But I don’t think I’d ever go through with it, unless someone else was paying!
