Morning Sickness 101 (Part 2)

morningsickness.jpgWhen you’re suffering from morning sickness you learn a thing or two you’d never thought you’d need to know.
Tip Number 6: It’s better to throw up in the sink than the toilet.

Bending over at the waist when pregnant to send tuna back from which it came can make you very uncomfortable. Also, besides the physical discomfort, if you lean into the toilet to control the splatter, you will get splash. Toilet water will splash up and smack you in the face, adding insult to injury. Using the bathroom sink cuts out toilet splash, keeps you from bending too far over and it’s easy clean up.

Tip Number 7: Some things taste the same going down as coming back up; others far, far worse.

Gross, yes, but there are some foods that may be easier on you when they leave. Apple juice tastes the same coming and going. Chocolate tastes very bad on the rewind, like throw up with an acrid twist. Just an FYI.

Tip Number 8: There is no cure, but there is help.

There are all kinds of items that supposedly help morning sickness. Peppermint, ginger and accupuncture are all natural remedies that help some women. For others, specifically with severe morning sickness, prescription drugs are available.

Tip Number 9: Morning sickness doesn’t last forever, well sometimes it can…

Last the whole pregnancy that is. Unfortunately, some women are just that unlucky. They are the minority. For the majority of women, morning sickness goes away by the second trimester giving way to a whole new attitude! A caution though, morning sickness can come back in the third trimester. I know… Sorry.

Tip Number 10: Morning sickness can be good for you.

Studies report that morning sickness is a sign of a healthy pregnancy. It can be used as a pity card to be pulled out at convenient times: to get out of housework, get off the phone after other attempts have failed, to get all the free ginger ale or tea possible and if you’re a writer, it can lead to a whole lot of stories and blogs!

If you missed my first five tips, you can see them all here: Morning Sickness 101 (Part1).
