Your Hubby can’t Change a Diaper – Is He Faking?
I don’t know if many women encounter this these days, I mean times are changing with many men now becoming stay-at-home dads. But there are quite a few men out there who still pretend to not possess even the most basic skills when it comes to taking care of the baby. I don’t mean they are bad fathers, or anything close to that. Some of you may know what I’m talking about, that wonderful husband who is ever so attentive, spending lots of time with the baby, but when the time comes to change a diaper is nowhere to be found. Let’s face it guys can be pretty selective when it comes to being helpful. Whether it’s endearing or annoying, well, that’s up to you.
Women who have one child may be more inclined to ignore their partner’s fumbling with basic tasks around the house. Of course, by the time child number two arrives they usually get wise to it – his innocent – can’t do housework act. This is not suggesting that they are all faking of course, but even the ones who are genuine have to step up to the plate some time.
We can forgive these little foibles I think. After all, there is something called the ‘maternal instinct’ although I sometimes try to figure out who came up with that term, anyway. Anyway, if we the female partners need some help, gentle reminders can’t hurt. With a baby in the picture, maintaining a peaceful atmosphere is important – so try reminders – not nagging.
Maybe it’s really a gender issue for him. It’s possible he was raised to think that certain things are a woman’s domain, even if she works away from home as well. Be patient, and remind him that the quicker you both get things done, the more time you have for that quiet dinner or to finally sit back and watch that movie. Now if you could only get him to go for a nice drama instead of that action movie. Better yet, it makes you less tired for a romantic evening.
So are you one of the lucky women with a house-trained hubby (no offense meant, guys) or do you have to fight to get him to help with domestic affairs?

Hahahahaaaahahahahahaa! Very funny post. I have one of those either “untrained” or deceptively genious husbands. Actually, he knows how to change diapers and he knows I know he knows how to change diapers.
But he claims he’s just “not good at it.” (Which I hate to say is true, because I’ve never seen a diaper attached to a baby in stranger ways than my husband does it.)
He’s skating through now that we only have one baby, but your post is true, once we have another he’ll have to start taking a bigger role in the #1’s and #2’s.
