I have a 12-yr old step-son who has had the vaccine and still got chicken pox last year. It was a very mild case, yet it was still annoying, as chicken pox goes. But it was no where near as bad as I had it when i was little. Until there is negative proof against the vaccine, all my children will get it.
When I read about people actually having parties to get the infection, my mouth dropped...literally. I hate my children to be sick. I even hate getting vaccinations because they always feel bad for several days. I cannot imagine trying to get my child sick eve with "good" intentions. I'm sure these are the same parents the sanitize every surface every time they leave the house, ignoring the fact that coming in contact with some germs helps to build immune systems. Somtimes I just want to hit poeple with the logic stick.

It sounds like a bad idea for another reason too.... The poor child with chicken pox is itchy, irritable, possibly embarrassed at his "spots" and I'm sure the last thing he wants is to be a dubious "guest-of-honor" at a party, which turns him into something like a circus sideshow attraction.

In addition to being dangerous, I'd venture to call it immoral, too!

I had my boys vaccinated against varicella (chicken pox) . One caught chicken pox, one didn't. The one who had it had it pretty mild - no high fever, 6 lesions in total, all on the face. The funny thing is that my boys are identical twins.
A second dose of the vaccine is now recommended to boost immunity. It also known that in very rare cases, those who had had chicken pox may get it again when they are exposed to the so-called wild-type varicella virus.
