Most Influential Babies
Recently, Forbes published a list of the most influential babies of the year. Babies can be influential? Apparently so. These were the babies that set the standard for baby gear, baby haircuts and baby outfits. These babies are the trendsetters of the stroller set, supposedly. But, how important is it that a baby be influential, and should we really be coveting each other?s baby gear?
These influential babies have been photographed more than any other famous babies, with their pictures appearing in newspapers, magazine pages and even on the covers. With the thousands of pictures and news stories about them, these babies have been as scrutinized and discussed as their celebrity parents. The celebrity circus around these babies started before they were even born. Each birth was greeted with press statements, official photos and the kind of homecoming you?d expect of a major statesman.
The number one position was held by none other than Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, the golden child born to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Coming in at number two was Suri Cruise, daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. The third place was held by Shiloh?s sister Zahara. Fourth place was Britney?s oldest son Sean Federline. Pax Jolie-Pitt rounded out the top five.
All of these babies were born into wealth and privilege, which by itself is perfectly fine. Their parents are hard working people who happen to have more than the average person. What isn?t fine is when the rest of us feel pressured by the media coverage to buy unnecessary baby items that we can?t afford. We all hear about Petit Tresor and other high-end baby stores. How many parents have felt inadequate because they can?t afford the best of the best? Most people can?t shop in a Beverly Hills baby boutique. Most parents provide everything their babies need without having any over-the-top designer gear. Isn?t that enough? If it isn?t, society may be moving in a direction that isn?t really about the best interests of children, but about gaining the best status symbols possible- even if they?re our own offspring.
