A Sad End to the Caylee Anthony Story

swingSince the story first broke in June 2008 about the disappearance of the 2-year old Florida girl, many persons worldwide while fearing the worst hoped for the best. I know that my fervent hope was that by some chance the little girl would be found alive – I didn’t want to believe that she was dead. However, all hopes were dashed today when police confirmed what was probably in the minds of so many. Skeletal remains found in woods near Caylee’s grandparent’s house were positively matched by the FBI’s Virginia-based forensic lab. My heart is sad as I silently say goodbye to Caylee Anthony. The bones were found on December 11, 2008 by a meter reader. The world waited anxiously to hear the news – it came today, December 19 in a solemn press statement. I could never forget this sad story as today I also celebrate a special time, my 10th wedding anniversary.

According to Medical Examiner Dr. Garavaglia, “The manner of death in this case is homicide…The cause of death will be listed as homicide by undetermined means.” It means that no one except Caylee’s murderer knows how she met her untimely death.

Although her mother was finally charged with her murder in October after repeated being arrested and released, there is still no admission of guilt on her part. It is still sad for me as a mother to acknowledge that a mother could kill her child – but it happens. However, until proven guilty in a court of law I will withhold judgment as to the guilt or innocence of her mother, Casey Anthony. Reports published online did not state how she reacted when informed that her daughter’s remains were positively identified.

The tale of Caylee will not end until her mother is brought before the courts to answer charges of murder. So as we all whisper a silent prayer for the pretty little girl who was with us for a brief time, we have not heard the last of this tragic story.

Rest in peace sweet angel – Caylee Marie Anthony.
