Keep These Important Phone Numbers Handy

When switching to a new cell phone plan, my husband and I also received new phones. Consequently, we had to program all of our old phone numbers into these new phones. While this is usually a task that neither of us wants to do, and that both of us will avoid until it?s absolutely necessary, we found it a little more important this year, due to having a baby in the house. In fact, it was a good opportunity to re-organize our address books and program in some phone numbers we otherwise hadn?t included.

Here?s my list of the most important phone numbers to have handy ? whether programmed into your cell and home phones, or listed on a sheet next to every phone in the house. We programmed these in our phones in a special group, marked ?Emergency.?

  • Poison Control.
  • 911 or other emergency phone numbers. It might also be wise to include the local police/fire/ambulance number.
  • Urgent Care/local hospital Emergency Room.
  • Pediatrician.
  • Dentist.
  • Daycare.
  • Other caregivers. Do your parents, neighbors, grandparents watch your child? Keep those numbers handy as well in case they need to be reached.
  • Neighbors or friends. List the phone numbers of two nearby friends or neighbors who can be called upon to help.
  • Your and your partner?s work phone numbers. In case you need to be reached at work for any reason.

When making up a list of phone numbers to keep next to the phone, include some basic information on it as well, such as your street address, nearest cross roads, and home phone number. While this information seems obvious to you, it may not be easy to remember in a time of distress.

Hopefully, you won?t need to use any of these numbers in an emergency; however, it?s good to have them on hand and readily accessible if you do need them.

What other important numbers do you keep on your phone?
