Twice Is Nice For First Births

jan1.jpgAt the start of ever year, a story that fascinates a lot of people is “Who was the first baby born?”, whether it be the first birth at the local hospital, in the state or in the nation. Having this stroke of luck (and let’s face it, natural childbirth is about as easily subjected to split-second timing as ‘When is your mother going home, dear?’) at least leads to your picture in the local paper, if not gifts.

Apparently, the gifts are really good at the hospital in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

Becky and Kyle Armstrong rang in the new year with a new addition; Faith Lynn Armstrong, born at 5:30am on January 1, 2008, and it’s getting to be a habit for them. Last year’s first baby of the year at the Gettysburg hospital was Kaden Skye Armstrong…Faith Lynn’s older brother.

Aside from the obvious benefits to being able to hold joint birthday/New Year’s parties for the next few years, this is a very rare thing. Unless, of course, you’re in the Armstrong family. The two children share their birthday with their great-grandmother.

“Faith being a first baby was not on my mind,” Becky told the Associated Press, “It didn’t matter to me.” I have to wonder, though…now that the tradition of celebrating New Year’s Day in the maternity ward has started for them…well, let’s just say that she might start getting that gleam in her eye come March.
