By allowing Facebook to equate breastfeeding with sexual titillation we again place prudery above common sense.

There are many more sexually charged images on Facebook. Do they plan to go after those, or was this just an easy line to draw in the sand?

The research evidence is crystal clear. Prudery is a form of child abuse and the Facebook policies encourage prudery.

Unfortunately a small number of organisations like Facebook have a near monopoly on large parts of the internet. It is not a free market so they must be required to show some social responsibility that is founded on fact rather than prejudice.

I agree with Facebook’s policy, and I have an account. I nursed all three of our children. My husband is a photographer and took many photos of me with our preemie twins while they were in the NICU. We were holding them skin to skin and I was nursing in some photos. I was not completely exposed but more breast was showing than I would feel comfortable with in public. This means we did not post any of these photos online, not even on our own family blog. Do not blame Facebook for upholding policies you agreed to when you signed up. Consider all the things others may think is appropriate that Ms Speed would be offended by? Should people be able to post photos from Carnival in Brazil? Their culture allows exposed breasts on TV ads.

I have no problem with Facebook not allowing pictures of breasts–with or without babies attached. Honestly, it’s a free service to us. It’s their business. They might lose advertising if they allowed it. And really, who wants to look at anyone’s breast while they are feeding a baby? If you want to show pictures of yourself breastfeeding, post them to your website.

I will NOT boycott Facebook, I understand the reasonings behind it. I breast fed my son untill medical reasons prevented it (and yes there were medical reasons). I breastfed in public, discreatly(sp). No one saw boob except my son. Their not banning breastfeeding content or all breastfeeding pictures just shots were boob is exposed.
I am unsure what the big deal is but I’m sure someone will tell me just like people have told me there was no excuse not to continue breastfeeding.
