Christmas Coming to Millions of the World’s Poorest Children
Christmas comes in shoeboxes each year to children touched by a charitable group. Operation Christmas Child is busy playing Santa to millions of children around the world this week. The Christian Post said this year Operation Christmas Child, with the help of 250,000 volunteers, will send shoeboxes filled with toys, school supplies, etc. to 7 million children. The organization uses every means of transportation available – some of the biggest cargo planes, trains, automobiles, ships; and the fastest camels and dog sleds to reach children who otherwise would not receive any gift this Christmas.
I was fortunate enough to participate in Operation Christmas Child this year with my moms group: Mocha Moms of Greater Columbus, Ohio Inc. It was a fun activity and my daughter had a good time picking out items to donate. A project like this, that helps so many, helped us as well because our family had the opportunity to discuss the importance of giving, volunteering and helping others. Olivia now periodically comes to me with toys she’s decided to give to charity so all kids can have fun.
It doesn’t take much to teach a child how to give. I wish it were that simple for adults.
