Christmas Appeal for Missing Madeleine McCann
The parents of missing British toddler Madeleine McCann made an appeal on Saturday to anyone who can provide any information about her disappearance 8 months ago. The McCann’s video appeal, shown on television worldwide, included a video of Madeleine opening her presents last Christmas. Today, police said a number of leads have resulted from the appeal.
4-year-old Madeleine went missing under suspicious circumstances during a family vacation to Portugal, and the case has gathered international attention. Madeleine’s parents left her, and their two-year-old twins, sleeping in their apartment while they had dinner with friends in the next door bar. They checked on the children regularly, but sometime that evening Madeleine vanished.
Her parents have been made official suspects by the Portuguese police, but they strenuously deny their involvement. The believe she has been kidnapped, and accuse the Portuguese police of not being thorough in their investigation. They have made countless appeals, have continually campaigned to keep the case in the public eye, and even met with the Pope to raise attention to the search for Madeleine.
Madeleine’s parents have variously been praised for their determination to find their daughter, and dammed for leaving her alone that night, for misusing money donated to a fund in Madeleine’s name, and worst of all, accused of being directly involved in her disappearance. What do you think?
