Sorting out family relationships

Perhaps to Americans, the name Sarah Connor is more associated with the character in the Terminator series played by Linda Hamilton. However, in Europe, especially in Germany and Switzerland, Sarah Connor is the girl with the beautiful eyes and sultry voice behind the hits “From Sarah with Love“, “Living to Love You” and “From Zero to Hero“. The latter is the theme song of the animated film “Robots”
Recently, Sarah’s family made headlines again (”Sarah’s Mom is Mom”) when her mother Soraya Lewe-Tacke gave birth to twin boys last May 30, 2008. What is so unusual about it is that Soraya is 50 years old and already has 6 grown children with her ex-husband Michael Lewe. Sarah, the eldest, is almost 28 years old and has two little children of her own, Tyler (4) and Summer (2). Sarah is married to American pop-rock musician Marc Terenzi, now solo artist but used to be a member of the American band Natural.
From their age differences, Sarah’s kids and her twin brothers will be growing up together. It would be confusing- and fun - for them to try to sort out the family relationships.
Sarah’s family reminds me of my own family especially when I was growing up. My Mom was my Dad’s second wife and my Mom and my oldest (half) sister from my father’s first marriage were, on several occasions, pregnant almost at the same time. I am “auntie” to my half-sister’s son and daughter who are a couple of years older than me! People are always confused when I refer to boys towering above me as my nephews. And my niece’s eldest daughter, who is supposedly my grandniece, is now 20 years old - 15 years older than my sons who are her “uncles.”
To simplify everything, we refer to each other now as cousins. We are family. The rest is not so important.
