It was nice to see Nicole Richie being awarded for being a parent. When I saw the headline I just had to read the article since I wasn’t sure if it was satire. Editor-in-chief of Babytalk Magazine, Lisa Moran was prepared for such disbelief.
However, after reading Moran’s reason for giving Richie the Golden Pacifier Award, I’m in agreement. Moran said in an interview in OK! Magazine, “Honoring Nicole Richie with a Babytalk Golden Pacifier Award might come as a surprise to some, but we felt that she deserved some recognition for her turnaround since becoming a mom.”
No one can disagree that the 27-year old has made major changes in her life since becoming a mother in January 2008. The once troubled Richie has displayed a level of maturity not seen before she gave birth to daughter, Harlow. Moran highlighted this factor in her interview, noting that, “She’s (Richie) grown up a lot since the arrival of little Harlow, and her creation of the Richie-Madden Children’s Foundation has demonstrated her efforts to set a good example by shining a spotlight on important issues affecting today’s families.”
So well has motherhood suited Nicole Richie, that fellow socialite and friend, Paris Hilton is hankering for motherhood herself. Hilton is planning to have a baby in 2009 with current boyfriend, Benji Madden, the twin brother of Harlow’s dad, Joel.

When I saw this article, I was frankly disappointed in Baby Talk magazine.
She’s towed the line since like January? Wow. I’d have liked to see a little more of a positive pattern before she was recognized by an award for parenting. They say she has grown and matured since becoming a parent. Don’t most of us? How does this make her award worthy?
Now, if they are needing to hand out awards, I’d like to nominate my friend “K”. She has adopted 4 kids in addition to having 3 of her own. The 4 kids she’s adopted are handicapped, paralyzed, etc. She’s also served as a foster mom to handicapped kids.
She’s never gotten any awards that I know of….
Sorry for sounding so jaded….
