Cue The “Baby Mama” Jokes – Amy Poehler Gives Birth
In a recent development that is sure to have the media scrambling for references to her 2008 movie, Amy Poehler gave birth to a baby boy. The baby is the first for Poehler and husband Will Arnett. The couple named the baby, who weighed a little over 8 lbs, Archie Arnett.
Poehler, who is a regular on Saturday Night Live, left the show to get ready for the new addition to her family. Her former cast mates told the audience at a recent taping, “Amy Poehler is not here tonight because she is having a baby.”
She has won raves for her work on the weekend staple, in particular for her Hillary Clinton impressions. Fans will probably be disappointed to learn that she will not be returning to the show. Instead, according to reports, she will be working on a spin-off to The Office, which stars Steve Carell.
Poehler and Arnett have shared the screen before. She played the ?accidental wife? of his character Gob, on Arrested Development. She also appeared alongside him in Blades of Glory, as half of a figure skating team.
Interestingly she made the announcement that she was expecting the same week her movie ?Baby Mama? debuted in the top spot at the box office. Poehler and Arnett married on August 29, 2003.
Poehler joined the cast of Saturday Night Live in 2001, and quickly became a regular performer. Her impressions include Sharon Osbourne and Kelly Ripa. No doubt former co-stars Tina Fey and Maya Rudolph can offer plenty of advice. Rudolph gave birth to a girl in October 2005, while Fey had a girl in September of 2005. Congratulations to Amy Poehler and Will Arnett.
