The Baby Gave me a Hickie!
Ah, the “hickie.” Maybe the people where you came from called it a love bite. When you were a little kid, it was perfectly acceptable to have one in the crook of your elbow or the back of your hand. And some teenage boys wear them with pride on their necks. But at my age, no way. And with my personality, NO WAY. Even when I was younger, less concerned about appearances, more amorous, perhaps more adventurous, I would never let someone give me a hickie. I thought they were tacky at best. Downright trashy at worst. But being a mother changed all that.
Yesterday, my husband and I, and the baby, were in a meeting with a mortgage broker that took way too long. 15 minutes prior to leaving the house, I had stuffed her full of food, changed her diaper, etc. We were set for another four hours. Or so I thought.
This little wisp of a girl has begun to eat like, well, a pig lately! And so she decided, about an hour into our meeting, that she was hungry. I thought, well, we’ll be out of here in another 15 minutes… I really didn’t want to nurse her in front of this guy–I didn’t have a blanket with me. And I hadn’t brought a bottle. So I dig through her diaper bag for the emergency stash of Cheerios which had mysteriously disappeared. (I think my 12 year old had something to do with that.) So I’m pacing with the baby and jiggling her trying to keep her happy while the broker went on and on. Finally, I put her up near my face, and she latched on. HARD! The poor thing sucked desperately on my chin. She wasn’t getting any milk, but my skin must have been enough comfort to pacify her for the time being.
Finally, I got her home and fed her, and all was well.
But when I woke up this morning and saw my face in the new light, there it was. My chin is purple! I have a hickie–on my face! I’m so glad that I don’t have to go out of the house to work these days.
When my son was a baby, he seemed to be permanently latched on to my breast, so I don’t know that he ever had the opportunity to give me a hickie.
Has this ever happened to you?

Mine gave me a hickie or two in our nursing time too. Never on my face though LOL. Thats funny. I had a few from where she latched on next to my nipple on my breast and sucked for all she was worth before I could correct her latch. One time I was holding her and was wearing a really thin cotton top and nursing bra. She wanted what I had and latched on through my clothes. I was busy so it took minute or two to get to her… by the time I did I had an enormous milk spot on my front…. She had been content she was getting what she wanted despite the barrier.

Oh, that is funny. I got my son out of his crib one night when he was RAVENOUS and he latched onto my chin, but no hickie. Like Melissa, I have gotten a couple hickies on my breast from an incorrect latch during a frantic attempt that took me a few seconds to correct. I’m like you, I always thought they were gross, but the baby hickies are awful cute, I think.

Alexandra, That is too funny!
No hickies yet, but when she was no more than a week old, I picked her up to give her a kiss and she latched onto my nose! I carried her out of the bedroom like that and hubby got a photo.
