Create the Perfect Easter Basket for Baby
For a baby’s or toddler’s Easter basket, there are many alternatives to the traditional chocolate bunny, surrounded by a variety of other sugar-packed treats.
If you want to include the chocolate bunny for a toddler, you can add all sorts of fillers which are fun and sugar-free (or at least, low in sugar).
Plastic Easter eggs can be filled with animal crackers, Teddy Grahams, and even Cheerios for a baby. You can choose Fruity Cheerios as an option, which look and taste more like candy than the traditional O’s. Try filling eggs with jelly beans which are cut in half- perfect for those tiny fingers!
For toddlers, you can fill eggs with little, inexpensive non-edible items such as plastic dinosaurs or stickers. For the toddler boy who loves everything on wheels, put a small car or truck inside each egg (of course, keeping in mind the toys’ age recommendations).
Books are a wonderful idea for baskets. Choose stories about farm animals or bunnies if you want to stick to the Easter theme. Board book versions of Pat the Bunny, Run Away Bunny and Peter Rabbit are cute choices. Add a Peter Rabbit stuffed animal, plush chick or other animal. A puppet is also a fun option.
Arts and crafts-themed baskets can bring hours of fun for your toddler. Include finger paints, chunky crayons (just right for the youngest of artists), coloring books, Play-do with plastic cutting tools and sidewalk chalk.
Bubbles are always a winner with babies and toddlers. The no-spill variety can be found in most toy-aisles.
If baby loves the bath, include plastic bath toys, sponge letters and other shapes that stick to the side of the tub, and fun bubble bath; if your child is a Winnie the Pooh or Blue’s Clues fan (or fan of any character), you can find bath bubbles in character-themed bottles in the kids’ bath aisle most anywhere. Your little one will probably get a kick out of a tooth brush and toothpaste which feature his favorite character.
Other filler ideas include toy dishes, tea sets and play food or dress-up jewelry and barrettes for the toddler girl who’s already discovered fashion. Try an age-appropriate action hero for your toddler boy.
You may also go beyond the traditional woven basket and fill a dump truck or other fun container with goodies. If you live near the beach, let the Easter Bunny fill a new pail with treats and include fun sun- glasses, a shovel and other beach toys.
Explore a theme or idea and you’re bound to come up with more creative ideas to make the perfect custom-made basket for your little bunny!
