Just to clarify--no U.S. states have laws against breastfeeding. Some states have laws that expressly (no pun intended) permit it and protect nursing women from indecent exposure laws. So no one really has to check the laws to make sure they're allowed to--knowledge of local and state laws just provides added ammunition if someone tries to tell you to the contrary.

Hmm.. I'm not sure how I would react if I asked someone if they had a problem with my nursing and they said they did.

I'd be inclined to suggest they leave the area, then, because myself and my daughter have as much right to be there as anyone else. :) To avoid THAT awkward situation, if she needs to eat, I just nurse her. :D But I'm a b---. :)

BTW, I spent the first three mos. of my daughter's life the same as you--holing myself up in a private room and missing all the fun. :) Great post! And I"m glad you pushed your fears aside, too! :)

Now it kind of bothers me when people direct me to a "private spot" to nurse when I'm in a social situation. I feel like if I don't go, I'm being rude, but I miss all the festivities if I do. I'd love to hear how you react to that particular social situation?
