An Indonesian woman had a 15-pound, 2-ounce baby right before the New Year, according to French news service AFP. That’s not even the heaviest baby of 2007: A Russian woman had a 17-pound baby last fall. They’re both petite according to the Guinness Book of Records, which says the heaviest newborn ever weighed in 23 [...]

So we’ve finally gotten all of our Christmas decorations packed away and managed to stuff the last of our used wrapping paper and gift boxes into the recycle bin. But there’s no time to relax, because no sooner has the holiday season ended than birthday season has arrived. My son turns 4 in two weeks, [...]

A new study in the December issue of Pediatrics says breastfeeding moms can introduce a love of fruits and veggies to their babies by eating healthy themselves. The Monell Center study revealed that breast-feeding helps babies take to those foods during weaning if the mother regularly eats them as well. Breast-fed babies who were introduced [...]

A Pennsylvania woman has been making a habit of ringing in the New Year not with Champagne, but with a baby. For the second year in a row, Becky Armstrong has given birth on January 1. She’s also had the first babies born of the new year at Gettysburg Hospital, according to AP. Forget about the New Year’s birth dates, what’s probably the most amazing feat is that she’s had two kids within the space of a year. Whew, I have a feeling she’ll need a lot of Champagne by the time 2009 rolls around.

So my husband and I love watching “The Biggest Loser”, and with the writers’ strike, we love it even more since it looks like there won’t be much else on TV for a long while, so of course we couldn’t wait for the start of last night’s “couples edition.” It’s basically teams of two losing [...]

Father knows best, too
Since it’s my husband’s birthday, and since I insist on being right on things about 99% of the time, I thought it would be a nice gift to mention one of the times when I was (gasp!) wrong–and how it’s good for new moms to remember that dads are parents, [...]

The best Christmas gift ever …
… is probably the one K.C. Wheeler gave her identical twin sister, Melissa Ferraro. Wheeler served as surrogate for her sister, and gave birth to Madeline Grace on Christmas day, according to News 14 in North Carolina. Even better: Ferraro, who had been trying with her husband to become [...]

Hey big spender
So a Forbes.com story today says that advertisers need to do a better job marketing to moms. Apparently, we spend about $2.1 trillion a year–or about 15% of the entire U.S. economy. (And I can believe that, based on my average weekly shopping trip to Target.) The article says advertisers can do [...]

Rockin’ (and early!) New Year’s Eve
We’re going to party like it’s 1999! Well, not really … because in 1999, we didn’t have any kids. And that changes New Year’s plans considerably.
Pre-kids, I used to enjoy traveling for the New Year: Paris, Los Angeles, Seattle, Las Vegas. But now, the only way I’m up at [...]

Fun kids’ breakfast
So if you’re like us and you watch the PBS Sprout channel with any regularity, you may have seen the commercial for the “Pancake Puff” pan, which has six small wells into which you pour batter to make puffs of all styles: pancake, brownie, and even pizza. I’ll pass on the last [...]
