We are officially “toy testers” for toyportfolio.com, the company which is featured regularly on The Today Show and whose ratings grace the labels of many higher-end toys. The company consists of a mother-daughter team who are “toy experts”, awarding toys with their prestigious “Oppenheim Award” each year.
A friend of a friend hooked us up and they sent us a package of new baby toys a couple of weeks ago. Our baby loves his new jungle-themed playmat by Infantino .The orange, brown, turquoise and lime green colors are bright and fun for baby’s inquisitive eyes. The monkeys, other jungle animals, palm trees and bananas are featured in a variety of textured fabrics for baby to touch and feel. The crescent-shaped pillow, which velcros to the mat, can be used to prop up baby’s chin for tummy-time. Teething toys are attached in a few spots on the mat (something we’ll be needing in a couple of months). The little grass hut attachment features a mirror, lights and music to stimulate baby. All five of baby’s senses are stimulated with our new mat!
Our baby also enjoys the cute plush toys that came in the package, including an adorable, whimsical stuffed elephant by Gund. Our big boys lucked out, too: they got new Lego sets to assemble and “review”; I told them that the building is their fun “job” for the summer. They get paid in the form of new toys to keep!

Joanne Oppenheim (the mother of the mother-daughter duo) recently published Read it! Play it! With Babies and Toddlers, a book about toys, music and books for babies and toddlers, of course! I want to get my hands on a copy soon so I can research the latest and greatest books and toys for my new little guy.
The kids and I are hoping that the UPS truck will make another toy delivery again, soon! In the meantime, they better hurry up and finish building that Lego ship and stegasaurus…
