High heels for a baby? Yes, really it is true.
Today I discovered a company called Heelarious, which manufactures tiny shoes with heels. The shoes have been created in the United States by two childhood friends, Britta Bacon and Hayden Porter, and are ’specifically designed for babies.’ I was wondering what that really means. How exactly does one design a pair of high heels specifically for a baby?
A check on the company’s website reveals that they have 6 designs in various styles and colors including pink, black, and leopard print. The shoes are intended for babies up to 6 months of age and are ‘extremely funny, completely soft, fully functional high heel crib shoes for babies.’ Each pair of shoes costs $35 and can be purchased at a limited amount of retailers in the United States, Canada and Switzerland. They can also be purchased online.
The high heeled shoes are not intended for walking as the ‘heel will collapse with weight’ and are intended to be worn in the crib only. The website claims that the shoes were actually created as a joke product one day when one of the designers thought, while on the way to a party, about what fun it would be to bring her daughter to the event in high heels.
Perhaps I am old, or prudish. I don’t really see anything funny about high heels on a baby. I certainly don’t see anything even remotely amusing about buying a pair of $35 shoes for my child that aren’t intended to actually even be used as shoes. That’s just me though.
What do you think? Would you buy high heels for your infant? Do you think that $35 for a pair of shoes which aren’t actually usable is a good deal? Would you buy a pair for your infant daughter?

it makes me sick that they are making shoes that can’t even be worn, like putting weight on them, they will collapse. i think it is vulgar to put a pair of high heels on a baby laying there in a crib with a diaper on, it is like dressing the poor baby up for a child molester, high heels, earrings, lipstick, lace see thru nightie. the high heels seems like the beginning of a sliding slippery slope and a train wreck all together. i pray this is not what is going to happen, but this is the end times and what do you expect?

The sexualization of our children has to stop! On the surface this seems cute and innocent enough but have you noticed how eight year olds dress these days? It has to start and end somewhere. Make some cute clown shoes for babies or something!

It makes no sense. Theses shoes are supposed to be fully functional but will collapse under the baby’s weight. This product is ridiculous and serves no “function”.

i cant beleive it… heels for babies? they dont even care whats on their feet! why should the people around them? this is so rediculious, it is going to hurt their feet, or when they are older they will try to always wear heels. this is outragious! they just kids…

I don’t see the ’sexualization’ of our children here. I understand concerns and comments about the ‘heinous’ aspect of the shoes, but good god, they are only shoes. I think that the idea the creators were going for is a common ground every woman has experienced in their childhood….trying on Mommy’s high-heels. Its simply nostalgia surfacing. I doubt when these tiny heels were created, people actually sat with the intention to create some sort of diabolical shoe-plot. Oh and lukebandit ..if a child molester is really your concern, I can’t help but wonder why you are letting such a sub-species of human anywhere near your daughter.

omg…people relax! it’s only a pair of shoes…and please, “the sexualization of our children has to stop?” How are a pair of heels sexual? Now when a woman wears heels, the heels bring out the legs because of the angle the foot is on…making them look very feminine…I wouldn’t go as far as calling them sexual. I think it’s a cute idea and I would buy them if they weren’t $35. Putting a pair of plush shoes that look like heels and 8 year olds that wear plunging necklines, skirts with slits all the way to the mid-thigh is another thing are two very different things.

this is so stupid kids and teens are being pressured enough to fit into the form that everyone wants them to, now babies have to come into it omg this should not happen im 16 and it is so hard to be yourself and not get sucked in by the pressure of looking and acting a certian way. this is all happening sooner and sooner it should not go all the way to babies!!!!

How about a Pamper thong and a bustier bib to go along with them. This is the stupidest thing I have seen in a while. As if our kids aren’t already growing up too quickly now we want to slap adult accessories on them before they can even walk. Heaven help us….

This was the topic of our baby shower on Friday night. Thank goodness nobody gave the mom to be (who is expecting her fourth child…this time finally a girl!) a pair of those. I understand the ladies who started this business meant for it to be a fun take on an adult accessory, and I’m sure there are many people out there who will love them for a “gag” gift, but personally I would never purchase them. Especially since they cost the same as regular infant shoes and look totally weird to me. But oh well, someone will always buy them. To each his (or her) own! If you love them, buy them. If not, don’t I suppose.

I think it quite funny and would get a “KiCk” out of the funny comments and looks that people like you would say to me.

This by far ranks in the top ten of weird and disgusting. The sexuality is implied and that frightens me. And in these economic times $35 would feed a family of four for two days.
