I sat my kids down to watch the First Words DVD from So Smart. My daughter is beyond the age range for this DVD since she’s 4 and age range for the DVD is 9-36 months, but since my son falls neatly into the suggested ages she was game to give it a try.

The funny thing is that my daughter actually enjoyed the DVD more than my son did. She liked the soothing music and the ways the graphics eased onto the screen slowly. My son, on the other hand, only occasionally glanced at the screen and for the most part was relatively bored with it.

I think this DVD is more appropriate for parents who allow their young babies to watch TV. I can see how a young baby would find it all very intriguing, but if you’re anything like me you probably wouldn’t allow a young baby watch TV anyhow.

The video is different from other baby DVDs I’ve seen because it just isn’t annoying at all. It’s very soothing and pleasing to watch. If you allow your baby to watch DVDs, then this is a good choice. I particularly liked how the DVD started out with a suggestion that babies will do best when viewing it with a parent who is involved in the event too. I think that would be true with almost any DVD, but this one is made specifically for babies to enjoy with their parents.

Now that truly is So Smart.
