Fun in Unexpected Places

I’m pretty good at finding places to take the kids where they’ll have a bunch of fun without us having to spend a ton of money, so the other day when I noticed a flyer at the grocery store for a “Kids Club” I signed my kids up and hauled them in the day of the event.
I was relatively apprehensive. After all, I knew that the main goal of the store was to get people in so they would buy groceries so I was afraid that it would be an hour-long commercial for the store. I also didn’t know if my son - who is having issues sitting still for more than two seconds lately - would have any fun at all. I figured this was marketed more toward preschoolers, but I was willing to see if a toddler could have fun too.
It was actually a lot of fun. They had story time and then did a craft. After the craft they made some really cute snacks: they took mini bagels and placed crispy noodles and candy on them to make them look like lions. I never would have thought of that on my own.
Both of my kids had a really good time, and I wish I would have found this back when my daughter was a toddler and my son was a newborn because it would have been a lot of fun for her and my son would have enjoyed watching all the other kids run around. Nevertheless, everyone seemed to have a great time, and I learned a lesson in watching out for more opportunities to take my kids to unexpected places for fun.
By the way, I did buy some groceries afterward. I’m a sucker for a good marketing ploy.
