scrapbookpregnancynot.jpgWith our first sonogram came the idea to begin scrapbooking my pregnancy. However, I’m still scrapbooking my wedding and my five-year anniversary is coming up in August! My niece’s Sweet 16 scrapbook is also a work-in-progress; she’s starting college in the fall! Yes, I procrastinate.

Then I was reminded of the company Creative Memories, which helps make scrapbooking easy, by providing everything needed to get started for the first time or to complete your next big project if you’re a veteran. The company offers products for conventional or digital scrapbooking, including cool pre-designed digital pages; just add photos and you’re ready to go.

As for me, I prefer traditional scrapbooking methods. I spend enough time in front of the computer as it is! From complete kits, to books, stickers, ribbons, papers and more, you’ll find everything you need. Just looking at the sample layouts, I can’t wait to get scissors and double-sided tape in hand and start my next project!

If, like me, you’re a master procrastinator, a Creative Memories party might be the spark you need to get started. A consultant comes to your house and you and a group of friends will have an opportunity to share your favorite photo memories, create scrapbook pages, learn tricks-of-the-trade and, of course, buy fantastic materials to continue your project later. I have to admit, my favorite aspect of scrapbooking is buying all the fun accoutrements to go in my books—especially all the pretty, frilly pastel baby stuff! If I had the time, I’d even consider becoming a Creative Memories consultant myself!

Why scrapbook? Beyond just taking photos, which may or may not ever make it into an album, a pregnancy scrapbook will capture all your memories in a one-of-a-kind, creative format. It can get boring looking at page after page of 4 X 6 pictures, but scrapbooks provide eye-candy on every page to keep it interesting!

Scrapbooks also leave room for journaling, so you can preserve not only the photos, but your feelings. Little notes or longer stories will help you remember the exact moment the photo was taken. As your children get older, they will surely love to read about your life before they were born.

Best of all, scrapbooking your pregnancy will make the time pass more quickly when you reach that third trimester and the days seem to drag. More so than with any other creative venture I undertake, I enter that “zone” where time seems to fly when I scrapbook. It is almost as if I am outside of myself, completely focused on the task at hand.

Just find a comfortable chair and convenient workspace, set yourself up with all your materials at arms-length, pour a big glass of ice water to drink, and go to work! You may even forget your aches, pains and discomfort for a while.

The very thought of purchasing pink and blue paper, ribbons with little rocking horses, teddy bear stickers and more has convinced me I need to start scrapbooking—now! Maybe I’ll start small, with an 8 X 8 book to document my pregnancy, and then do a second book for the baby’s first year. Knowing my track record, it will make a great gift when my son or daughter graduates college!
