An Incredible Breastfeeding Mother

anincrediblemother.jpgI think this mother is amazing.

Ginger Bohl is an active duty military doctor deployed in Afghanistan. Every day she pumps and freezes her breastmilk, and ships it back to her 11-month-old son, Silas in the US. The milk is packed in a cooler and arrives in about three days.

Ginger recognizes she is very lucky to be able to send her breastmilk, and Silas certainly appreciates it. The military doesn’t provide any help for breastfeeding mothers, save for the standard four-month leave after birth, and Ginger and her family had to take the initiative, and bear the financial cost of shipping the milk themselves.

Ginger’s family thinks the military should provide more support, and some kind of compensation for breastfeeding mothers. Given the hardships that military moms and babies endure when the mother is deployed, I think that’s the least the military could do.
