shelterformost.jpg A Cornwall-based charity has been giving away tent kits to families in most need. ShelterBox, as it is called, includes a “10-man tent, sleeping bags, a multi-fuel stove, cooking equipment, tools, mosquito nets and water containers.”

In Camp Henderson, Nakuru, Kenya, pregnant schoolteacher Louise Kimani gave birth in one of the first tents set up. Kimani and her husband had been forced to flee from Kericho when their home was burned to the ground.

Currently 4,000 people are now in the camp and relief workers have put in an order for 200 more ShelterBox kits to arrive in the coming days. The first response team had been able to set up 200 tents in the first 48 hours following the mass evacuations of the troubled country.

ShelterBox is the brain child of the Rotary Club of Helston-Lizard and has been distributed in at least 40 countries hard hit by natural disasters such as typhoons, earthquakes, and wars.

If such quality aid can reach all displaced, marginalized people in the world, there might be less sadness and darkness; ShelterBox kits are candles of love and warmth in these trying times.

Kimani named her daughter favour, a favor from God.
