10 most common (and sometimes stupid) questions that mom of twins/multiples are asked

There?s no more interesting conversation piece than babies. And having multiples actually put you in the limelight. Try it. Go to the mall or the park with a twin pram. Heads will turn and many will definitely ask to have a peek. Initially, I basked in the attention I got when I went out with my twins. After all, which mom wouldn?t want to show off her adorable babies? But then it got to the point when the attention got on my nerves. And then there are the questions. Some are quite normal questions but some are downright stupid and even offensive. Here are the 10 most common questions I encountered during the first 2 years of my twins? life:
- Are they identical?
- Who?s older/stronger/weaker?
- Who`s your favorite?
- Are they a lot of work?
- When did you know?
- Was it normal or CS delivery?
- Why do you dress them alike/differently?
- Which side of the family has twins? Yours or his?
- Do they have ESP?
- Are they IVF babies?

As a mother of boy/girl twins I do wonder what to say when people ask if they are identical. The other silly question is which one is the boy and which one is the girl, my usual answer was “the girl is the one wearing the dress”. They are twelve and it is perfectly obvious which is which!!

I have five month old twins and the most common question I get is also are they identical. I also have boy girl twins. People are always asking which is which. I almost always have my daughter in pink and my son in blue. Come on, is it really that hard to tell lol.

You know, as parents of twins, we will always be under scrutiny by complete strangers about the nature of our unique duos. And the questions are almost always the same. Some parents find it amusing and even flattering, while others are greatly offended. Either way, I have often joked with twin parents that someone should publish a simple pamphlet covering the most common questions that we can carry (several of) in our diaper bags or purses. That way when someone asks about our twins, we can simply hand them a pamphlet and say “read this”….and on our merry way we go without having to explain for the 100th time why boy/girl twins are not identical or how intrusive it is to ask about how they were conceived. Who knows, maybe I’ll even find time to write and publish one myself….when I’m not busy raising my twins, of course!

My twins haven’t been born yet, so I can’t comment on twins questions, but you asked about common singleton questions…
I was repeatedly asked if my daughter was a boy or a girl (despite her clearly being dressed as a girl — in pink, in bonnets, in dresses).
I was also often asked if I planned to have more children.
And on more than one occasion was asked if SHE was planned (I was flabbergasted — talk about a personal question!!).
I also got comments on her brown eyes, vs. my blue eyes and asked if she was adopted (even though other than a few coloring differences she actually DOES look like me!)
People astound me with their questions and often talk without thinking about what they are saying.
